                                    Virtual Library Cards: A New LINK to Reading


    A Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS)- Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) partnership provides students with virtual library cards, called Leap into New Knowledge (LINK). 

    Students can now use their school provided student identification number to checkout library books from PGCMLS and access their resources, including but not limited to:

    • Computers and wi-fi 
    • Live on-line tutoring with BrainFuse 
    • Digital resources- downloadable music, games, and e-books 
    • Rosetta Stone 
    • Technology tutorials 
    • "Ask Us Now” research help 

    The LINK card is available to all PGCPS students with a student identification number. An application is not required and late fees are not accrued with the LINK account. Click here to read more.


     Free PG County Library Access to Students!

    Starting this month all PGCPS students will be able to use their PGCPS id number as their library card number! This means there is no separate card or registration required. All we need from students to register them for the summer reading program is their name and PGCPS id.

    • BUZZING: Schoolwide, Inc. has launched Buzzing, a dynamic, FREE informational website dedicated to promoting the effective use of technology to engage students, enrich teaching, and improve learning. Buzzing will explicitly support Zing users by providing:
      • eBook suggestions and reviews;
      • author interviews;
      • lesson plans, instructional resources, and teaching tips;
      • collaborative tools;
      • home-school connections;
      • authentic assessments; and
      • much more.

     Empower your child to become a successful reader! Join Partners in Print to help your child develop strong literacy skills and a love for reading! By attending our fun and interactive workshops, parents will develop important skills to help their children with reading at home including: using effective praise • reading for comprehension • storytelling •choosing books • asking questions to enhance learning

    Each workshop is different! Attend all workshops to develop a variety of skills. Every child who attends will receive a free book to take home!


                                                                    Parent Fingerprinting Information

    Volunteers who qualify may elect to do a commercial background check in place of the fingerprinting as per Administrative Procedure 4215 Section G. Chaperones for day are only required to undergo the background check. For an overnight field trip, chaperones must complete a full fingerprint background check and form. - See more at:

     Recently, PGCPS hosted the Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs-- their meeting focused on Children Seeking Refuge from Violence in Central America. 

    They shared the following: Recommended using "Children seeking refuge" rather than Unaccompanied youth.    
     Resources highlighted in the meeting:
     buscandomaryland.com -- site where you can find food, clothing, language, transportation, legal, medical, education/enrollment, religious, counseling, recreation services/resources for children seeking refuge.  Site is available in English and Spanish.

    EMERGENCY CONTACT FORM: During the Back to School Night and the first day of school, a Student Emergency Contact Form will be sent home for you to complete. Having this information completed accurately and returned promptly is of utmost importance. A record of this information is kept in the school office and given to your child’s teacher(s), in the event you need to be contacted. Please make sure all telephone numbers and addresses are accurate and clearly written. Remember to put the name and telephone number of a person who can be contacted in case you cannot be reached. It is imperative that the school office be notified immediately of a change of address, home, office or cell phone number, or any other emergency information during the academic school year. With the implementation of our Blackboard App, available at https://www.pgcps.org/bbapp/, we need updated numbers to ensure you receive all messages, announcements, important information, and the schedule of events at school.

    Parent Resource Library 

    The Parent Resource Room has now a Parent Library.  Parents will be allow to check out from a small selection of books containing a CD, so they can read as they listen to the story.  We have 3 audio sets that parents can also loan (they need to provide ID and sign a document).  Parents, may have the materials for 2 days, so more parents can benefit from this service.

    Thomas Stone Elementary is a Mandatory Uniform School for all students to follow each day to include: Bottoms: NAVY BLUE pants, jumpers, skirts, shorts, or skorts Tops: WHITE/LIGHT BLUE/NAVY BLUE shirts/blouses with a collar (dress or polo, long or short sleeve, NO LOGOS) Outerwear: Sweater/Vest (optional) – Must be WHITE/LIGHT BLUE/NAVY BLUE, but no hoodies Shoes: Solid Black, brown, or navy Tennis shoes: Solid black, white, or blue (no stripes or designs). Socks: Solid Black or white socks or tights; Patterned tights or socks not permitted. Belts: Black, navy, or brown.

The percentage of students returning lunch applications will determine if we qualify for additional Title I funding. Parents and/or students are required to bring money ($2.75 for lunch) to the cafeteria to make payments for lunch. You can replenish your child’s meals’ account electronically by using the Pay PAMS system as well. The web address is www.MySchoolBucks.com.     School Meals Payment Letter in Spanish 

    Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is offering a new online payment portal that will provide a convenient way for parents to pay for school meals using SchoolPaymentSolutions.com. The new online service makes it easy to stay up-to-date with your child’s spending, and you can even receive automatic notifications so you don’t have to worry about your child’s account balance. Please note that any balance left in your child’s account through PayPAMS from the past school year will automatically transfer to the new system.
