• Tuesday, January 22, 2019 — PGCPS — Code Orange: PGCPS schools and offices will open with a two-hour delay.

    EMERGENCY PERSONNEL must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.

    • There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)
    • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.
    • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center, JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
    • All field trips will be cancelled.
    • Food Services will offer breakfast.
    We will re-evaluate at 6:30 a.m.

    Dear Thomas Johnson Middle School Community,


    It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year! I look forward to partnering with you to ensure that our students are provided with quality education. As we begin a new school year, we will have the following areas of focus:

    Our vision at Thomas Johnson Middle School is for our students to be College and Career Ready scholars that pursue post-secondary opportunities. Our mission at Thomas Johnson Middle School will be to provide an environment for our scholars that encourages them to strive for academic excellence and be of service to their school and the community at-large.

    This school year Thomas Johnson Middle School will have the distinction of being a “STEAM” school (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). We will continue to focus on engaging students in STEM and as well as providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning through the arts.

    Please note the following important dates for parents and students:

    • August 31, 2018: Orientation Day (6th graders and new 7th graders)

    • September 4, 2018: First Day of School (all students)

    • September 13, 2018: Back to School Night (6 pm - 8 pm)
