    Prekindergarten

Entrance into a prekindergarten program is determined by age, income and school eligibility.

    Step 1: Eligibility

Families may apply for prekindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year if your child is four years old by September 1, 2020 and meets any of the following criteria:

    • meets the income eligibility guidelines
    • registered with the McKinney Vento Program (homeless)
    • demonstrates developmental delays or is at risk for developmental delays as identified by an IEP placement

Step 2: Determine which sites are available according to household income (both parents, if applicable) and school eligibility (space and location).

    Step 3: Register

In the wake of Governor Hogan's recent stay-at-home order along with continued school building closures, the Office of Pupil Accounting and the Early Childhood Office have received many questions regarding registration. Regulations and policies specify that registration be completed in person; therefore, schools cannot conduct registration at this time.

Most schools were in the process of preparing for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten registration. However, those registrations have been placed on hold until staff members are allowed to safely return to the building.

We continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly. Thank you for your continued patience and please stay safe.

    Early Entrance into Prekindergarten

A parent/guardian may make a request for early entrance into prekindergarten if the child turns four (4) years of age between September 2 and October 15, of the school year for which they are requesting early entrance.

A parent/guardian must apply for early entrance into prekindergarten at their boundary prekindergarten site.

**Families must qualify for the prekindergarten program before applying for early entrance.**

No applications for early entrance will be accepted after June 1st.
