New: 17 Prekindergarten sites now accept income up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level Income Guidelines - See list of schools below

    General Guidelines

The following are the Maryland State Department of Education age requirements for enrollment into prekindergarten:

Children admitted to the prekindergarten program in the public school shall be at least four (4) years old on or before September 1 of the school year in which they apply for entrance.

    Registration

Prekindergarten registration will begin on April 8, 2019 for children that reside within the boundary of a prekindergarten program location, verified by school finder. Beginning June 1st, families may register at any elementary school with a half-day prekindergarten program that still has available seats . Transportation will only be provided to boundary schools.  You may call the Early Childhood Office at 240-724-1924 for further clarification.

*Site locations and program structure (half-day/full-day) are subject to change based on additional funding.*

    Application Criteria

Families may apply for prekindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year if your child is four years old by September 1, 2019 and meets any of the following criteria:

    • meets the income eligibility guidelines

    • registered with the Mckinney Vento Program

    Early Entrance

A parent/guardian may make a request for early entrance into prekindergarten if the child turns four (4) years of age between September 2 and October 15, of the school year for which they are requesting early entrance.

A parent/guardian must apply for early entrance into prekindergarten at their boundary prekindergarten site.

**Families must qualify for the prekindergarten program before applying for early entrance.**

No applications for early entrance will be accepted after June 1st.
