  • We want our families to know...
Greetings Lamont Elementary Families!  As you have heard, State Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon has closed all schools in Maryland for the remainder of the 2019 – 2020 school year.  Additional information will be forthcoming from Dr. Goldson on procedures we will follow in closing out the school year.  Although Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) buildings will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year, school is still very much in session. The PGCPS calendar has been adjusted to reflect changes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school system requested a waiver of the state-mandated 180-day school year for the 10-day state closure from March 16-27. Five days were waived. The remaining five days must be made up, pushing back the last day of school one week to June 16 for students and June 18 for teachers.  As the June 2 primary election will be done mostly by mail with only five voting centers open in the county – none in schools – PGCPS is requesting a waiver from the state to change this mandated holiday to an instructional day. If approved, the last days for students and teachers will be one day earlier (June 15 and June 17, respectively). Distance learning will conclude June 8. From June 9 to June 16, students will be allowed to complete make-up work as we transition to summer.  The updated school calendar is pending approval by the Board of Education on May 14. A copy of the proposed calendar modifications and waiver request are available online at
