    Principal’s Welcome Letter

    Dear Students and Parent/Guardians:

Welcome back to the Kettering Elementary School 2017-2018 school year.  We would especially like to welcome our new young scholars and their families as you join us this year.

As summer quickly draws to its end, I trust that you are well rested and ready to resume your studies. This year promises to be exciting, eventful, and challenging as you enter your grade. Our entire staff is anxious to help make this year educationally profitable for you.

The philosophy of Kettering Elementary School is based on the premise that all students can learn, master and apply basic 21st century skills. To that end, Kettering exists to help lay a sound educational foundation for every elementary student. This requires not only the imparting of knowledge but the development of a sense of urgency as it relates to preparing a culture of college and career readiness. The instructional program at Kettering Elementary School emphasizes attention to cognitive demand, individual learning styles, the implementation of creative teaching strategies and active learning techniques. Furthermore, we believe communication, problem-solving, and the ability to reason are necessary tools for success in today's world. It is our intent to provide our students with these skills and opportunities.

While some changes have taken place over the summer months, one thing has remained constant, our commitment to success and preparing all scholars to be college and career ready at this foundational level. Expecting the best from all students in and out of the classroom is paramount to our continued “Raising the Bar” focus of quality education for every student. This year all of us must “Take Ownership” and “Champion the Change” in terms of supporting our young scholars in transition to greater learning.  Our quest can only be realized through a working spirit of mutual respect and cooperation from all stakeholders including teachers, parents, and administration. Our goal of success for all students will be achieved when home, school and community work together. In large part, our school’s success rests on structured parental involvement.  Please join us throughout the year in celebrating the many scholastic, academic, and personal successes of our students.

In preparing for the school year, please take note of the following:

Ø  SCHOOL BEGINS September 6, 2017. All students will report to the designated areas upon arrival to school. You will receive additional instructions from the teachers on duty.

    Ø  BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT September 13, 2017 @ 6:00 PM – 7:45 PM.

Ø  KINDERGARTEN and PRE-K ORIENTATION will be held on Thursday, August 31th at 10:00 AM.

Ø  SCHOOL HOURS are 7:45 AM until 1:55 PM. Students are expected to be punctual and engaged learners in order to fully benefit from the instructional day. Parents are asked to assist your child in attending school on time each day.

Ø  COMMUNICATION and the quick access to information in the 21st century are through electronic and internet sources.  Most of the mass information the school wishes to share with all parents and community will be via website and email so please remember to provide your email address and an accurate phone number to the main office.

The entire staff is happy to have you and your child as part of the reputable Kettering School family and work to ensure that we can successfully work together to meet their educational needs.

Finally, I solicit your support and participation in all school activities, and once again I welcome you to the new school year.
