    Preparing for a Portfolio Review

    According to State regulations, home schooling parents must have a minimum of two portfolio reviews each year. A portfolio review is a time that the local school system portfolio reviewers meet with the home instruction parent or legal guardian to ensure that the student is receiving regular and thorough instruction during the school year in studies usually taught in the public school.

    Face-to-Face Portfolio Review Process

    Parents will schedule their face-to-face winter and spring portfolio reviews on the Home Schooling website home page using the on-line calendar to select an available date. Parents should prepare and bring:

    Electronic Portfolio Review- NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY

    Read all instructions before beginning the submission of your electronic portfolio.

    Electronic Review Criteria:
    To be eligible for participation in the Electronic Portfolio Review Process a family must:

    • Have moderate to advanced technology proficiency
    • Have the capability to scan, save and upload documents into a Google Form
    • Have access to a computer to support electronic submission
    • Have had TWO consecutive years of “Compliant” portfolio reviews
    • Submit all portfolio materials within the designated time frame
    Portfolio Review Submission Requirements:
    • A separate electronic portfolio submission must be made for each student in a family.
    • It is suggested that each electronic portfolio have a minimum of 1- 2 dated work samples for each week of the semester, for each subject.  
    • Files must be smaller than 10 MB or they WILL BE DELETED

    COMAR defines Educational Materials as:  Relevant materials, such as instructional materials, reading materials, and examples of the child’s writings, worksheets, workbooks, creative materials and tests. 

    IMPORTANT:  The reviewer is not able to communicate with the parent face-to-face when reviewing electronic work samples.  Include a summary in your electronic presentation that clearly explains submitted work samples that may be unclear to the reviewer.
