      Dear Parent/Guardian:

      Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is pleased to inform you that your child will be taking the district’s Fall Bridging Diagnostics Assessments to help support their instructional needs. The Fall Bridging Diagnostic Administration will take place between September 8, 2020 through September 25, 2020. Your child’s teacher will be communicating with you and your child to provide technological support, logistics, and steps on how to access the assessments.

      The results of the Fall Bridging Diagnostics Assessments will be used by teachers and staff to implement and improve instructional practices. The assessments will cover the four major content areas Mathematics, Reading/English/Language Arts (RELA), Science, and Social Studies, along with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The purpose of these assessments are as instructional tools for teachers and no grades will be assigned.

      The district will be using the Pearson Access platform and other technology platforms to administer the FallBridgingDiagnosticsAssessments. Itiscriticalthatyourchildtakeeachassessmentindependently with no assistance provided.

      Your child will need your support by helping them select a quiet place to complete each assessment and removing all non-testing materials such as phones, textbooks, and notebooks to minimize distractions. Your child may also need your assistance with connecting to the appropriate technology platforms and applications.

        Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Prince George (PGCPS) se complace en informales que su niño tomará las evaluaciones de diagnóstico para cerrar la brecha educativa de otoño, con el fin de brindar recursos para sus necesidades de instrucción. La administración de las evaluaciones de diagnóstico para cerrar la brecha educativa de otoño se realizará entre el 8 de septiembre del 2020 y hasta el 25 de septiembre del 2020. El maestro de su niño se comunicará con usted y con su niño para brindarles apoyo tecnológico, logística y los pasos sobre cómo acceder a las evaluaciones.

    • Welcome Back to School Letter

       

      August 10, 2020 

      Dear Parents and Guardians,

      I hope that you and your families are enjoying the summer and staying safe. We look forward to welcoming each of you to the start of an exciting and academically charged new school year.  Our Hollywood Staff continues to work towards developing and maintaining a successful educational program to meet the needs of our students.  We welcome families to be a part of our school environment and participate in the school-sponsored activities.  Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.  

      At this present time, we have 408 students enrolled at Hollywood Elementary. Our enrollment numbers are not where they should be due to the online registration process.  We anticipate more students registering throughout the months of August and September.  Our class sizes vary from 20 – 25 students.  If you know of families who have moved into our neighborhood, please let them know they need to register their children for school as soon as possible.

      As you are preparing for the start of the school year, please be reminded, the list of school supplies is included in this letter and on the school’s website. If you need assistance in getting supplies, please contact Mrs. Caballero, Parent Engagement Assistant (PEA) at Aida.Caballero@pgcps.org or Ms. Lambert, our Professional School Counselor at racqu.lambertwarrick@pgcps.org. We are hopeful that the various Community Partners and Organizations will donate school supplies to our school again this school year.

      As we continue to live amid a global pandemic, our best approach to keeping our community safe is to continue with full distance learning for the first two quarters of the 2020-21 school year.  The 2020 -2021 school year begins on Monday, August 31st for all students.  The school hours for students are 7:45 a.m. -1:55 p.m. remain the same for virtual/distance learning.  Student class assignments will be forthcoming. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to follow the state and local guidance in collection of student and teacher attendance. Physical and virtual attendance will be collected in the 2020-2021 school year and daily attendance procedures will be communicated so all stakeholders know PGCPS’ definition of being considered present.

      Teachers will take attendance at the beginning of each day in SchoolMax. Attendance will be reviewed again after lunch to ensure students return virtually and are accounted for. In the event a student does not return for the afternoon, the student should be recorded as attending school for a ½ day and contact made with the home to ensure the student is safe.

      • Students are expected to be in attendance for class daily and present for each session.
      • Special attendance code used for students who are online learning.
      • Students are still required to provide an absence note in order to be considered lawfully absent.

      Distribution of school materials will be taking place for Hollywood Elementary on August 24th and August 27th. Embedded is a schedule with the designated time for you and your child to pick up his/her school materials. If you are in need of a school Chromebook, they will be signed out to you then (inventory permitting). If your child has already signed out a Chromebook from the Spring last year, then please continue to use that specific device that was assigned to you. In addition, school supplies that your child will need for his/her upcoming school year is embedded in this letter.       • Friday, August 28th is designated for Virtual Orientation Day for all students. More information is forthcoming.
      • We look forward to seeing all our Hollywood Families virtually on Thursday, September 17th for our Hollywood Back-to-School Night.

      All students can receive a free breakfast daily (pick up during distance learning is on Mondays and Thursdays only, pick-up time TBD). Lunch will also be available for purchase each day (pick up during distance learning is on Mondays and Thursdays only). Please complete the Free and Reduced Meals application onlineNOTE: Students will need to provide their pin number in order to receive meals. Students who attended Hollywood last year will have the same PIN number. New students will be issued a PIN number.

      Please join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). We have been very fortunate to have a strong and supportive PTA. This year the PTA will hold an election for the Officer Positions of President and Vice President.

    • UPDATE School Lunches

      Effective Sept. 2, meal pickup and delivery will be free for all students through Dec. 31.

      Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Sept. 2 distribution will consist of meals through Sept. 8. The regular distribution schedule will resume Sept. 9.

      All schools with the exception of Fort Foote, Glassmanor and Tayac Elementary Schools and Robert Goddard Montessori will serve as meal distribution sites. Multi-day meals are available for pick up Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

      Meals will also be delivered to many communities by school bus on the same days during the same time period. Please visit our website for more info and a list of delivery locations.

      Students picking up meals do not need identification. Parents/guardians should bring a student ID or most recent report card.

    • School Lunch Distribution

      Meals will only be provided to students enrolled in PGCPSStudents not eligible for free and reduced-priced meals will have to pay for breakfast and lunch. Food and Nutrition Services strongly encourages cashless transactions and encourages all households to deposit funds into their student account.

      • Meals can be picked up at the closest school in your community. Students will need to provide Name, PIN#, and the school enrolled in if they pick up a meal from a school they do not regularly attend.
      • Meals will be pre-packaged and distributed two days per week between 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at school locations.
      • Monday – Breakfast & Lunch for Monday and Tuesday FULL price lunch cost $8.70
      • Wednesday – Breakfast & Lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday FULL price lunch cost $13.05

      Although students are participating in their distant learning program your child needs to maintain their immunizations during the 2020-2021 school year. The Maryland Department of Health and The Maryland State Department of Education have mandated that all students must meet the requirements of school immunizations. 

      Students who are not current with their immunizations will have 20 calendar days starting from the first day of school to provide proof of vaccinations.
