• Homeroom Parent Initiative

     2015 - 16 Homeroom Parent Initiative

We are excited about the Room Parent initiative. Through this initiative, parents will connect with the school by supporting teachers, improve communication between parents and teachers, build unity in our school and parents gain valuable information on what they can do to help out in the classroom

    • The Room Parent must schedule a meeting with the teacher to learn his/her preferences and expectations.
    • Determine the best way to stay in contact with the teacher: phone, email, text
    • Develop a list of classroom activities for parental support: Career day, Field trips, etc
    • Update parents on Classroom achievements: Honor roll,  Student of the Month, Box Tops, etc
    • Find out what their teacher’s favorite things are for surprise parental gifts and Teacher Appreciation week.
    • Communicate School and PTSA events, programs and fundraisers to parents to gather support.
    • Remind parents of project due dates
    • Notify parents when classroom supplies are low (hand sanitizer, tissues, etc)

The Room parent must meet and sustain these requirements.

    • Pass the Commercial background check by the PG County Security office.
    • Maintain good working relationship with Teacher
    • Current member of the Fort Washington Forest PTSA
    • Gather methods of communication for parents/families (preferably email)
    • Provide suggestions and feedback to Room parent Coordinator for PTSA Board report
    • Keep private the contact information received from parents and sensitive information that may be shared due to your position.

Our FWFESPTSA Homeroom Parents will have a positive impact in the classroom and help parents become more engaged.
