The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6, 2017 and all students are expected to be dressed in full uniform including ALL BLACK SHOES/SNEAKERS.   Students and parents will begin entering the building through the main entrance at 7:45 AM and proceed to the designated locations.  Parents are not allowed to park in front of the school/roundabout.  The front will be used for BUSES only.  Parents are allowed to park in the side parking lots ONLY.

    Pre-Kindergarten – 3rd grade students…Multi-Purpose Room

    4th - 6th grade students…Classrooms

Students who are not registered/assigned to a classroom will report to the media center to be assigned on a class roster.

Parents are asked to assist us with facilitating the adjustment of all students by not lingering inside or outside classrooms on the first day of school.  We ask that you safety-pin a note on young children with the student’s name, address, telephone number where YOU can be contacted during the day, as well as their PM transportation (bus number, name of day-care provider/van, walker). The teacher will immediately begin to assist each student with feeling comfortable with the daily routine.  The first day of school is not the best time to engage in a lengthy conversation with your child’s teacher.

    School Hours

Our school hours are from 8:15 AM – 2:25 PM. Students will enter the building at 7:45 AM and report directly to the multi-purpose room for breakfast.  Students not eating breakfast must be in their seats for instruction by 8:15 AM sharp.  Students arriving at 8:15 AM, must report to the main office to pick up a tardy slip.  Students should be in school on time each day in order to achieve and maintain academic success.

    Mandatory Uniform Policy

All students in grades Pre-K-6 must wear the appropriate school uniform beginning the first day of school.  Students are not permitted to wear shoes/sneakers with colored stitches, stripes and/or designs and logos.  Solid white, black, and/or navy blue socks are allowed.  No stretch or cargo pants are allowed.  The uniform policy will be strictly enforced!

    Parents Visiting the Building

Your active participation with the school is encouraged and appreciated.  You can help us by making sure children are here daily, on time, rested, and ready to begin each day with a positive attitude.  Parents will be allowed to visit the school between 7:45 AM – 8:15 AM.  For the safety of all students, parents must first secure a visitor’s pass from the office. All visitors MUST have a valid, government-issued photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, state issued non-drivers identification, U.S. Government work ID with photo, etc.), which will be scanned into our visitor’s screening database and a visitor’s pass will be issued to you.  Anyone found within the building without this valid pass will be considered trespassing and will be handled as such.

    Student Supplies

All parents are urged to purchase school supplies prior to the first day of school.  Supply lists will be available in the main office prior to and on the first day of school (see attachment).

    Immunization Records and Health Inventories

No student will be admitted to a Prince George’s County Public School without the proper immunizations.  Please see Mrs. Jackson, School Nurse for NEW immunization requirements.  Health inventories are required for all new Prince George’s County students, and should be completed by the first day of school.

If your child requires the consumption of medication during the school day (prescription or non-prescription), a Medication Authorization Form must be obtained from the school nurse, completed by a physician and returned to the nurse before any medication can be administered.

    Family Emergency Cards/Forms

During the first week of school, your child will receive a family emergency form. The form must be completed accurately.  Please return the completed form to your child’s teacher by the end of the first week of school. Your promptness in completing and returning the form to school is requested.  Please provide all phone numbers, including cell phone.  Update this information throughout the school year (as needed).

Information on specific bus stops and times may be obtained at the Prince George’s County Public School website (www.pgcps.org).  Students are asked to report their bust stops at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time as some may experience early arrivals (or delays) during the first week.  Student are expected to return home in the same manner each day.  If there is a change to that pattern, parents must provide a letter to the school.  For the safety of your child, please do not call right before dismissal with alternate arrangements.  Dismissal starts at 2:25 PM.  Early dismissal will not take place after 1:55 PM.

    Breakfast and Lunch

All students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch daily. Concord Elementary School is participating in the Maryland meals program.  If you choose to provide your child with lunch, it is important that you plan healthy, balanced meals.  Breakfast and lunch menus are distributed monthly and may change without notice.
