    Surrattsville High School Uniform Guidelines:  

    Statement of Attire Standards     
    The School Board is permitted to adopt dress codes mandating the use of school uniforms. The purpose of the School Uniform Dress Code shall be to provide additional opportunities for increased school safety; to encourage students to experience a greater sense of school identity and belonging; to encourage an improvement in student behavior; and to encourage a high level of program participation.

    DRESS CODE:  Surrattsville High School is a uniform school. Strict adherence to the policy will be enforced. Our uniform shirts will continue to be green, yellow or white polo styled shirts and khaki ( beige colored) pants or skirts. Please refrain from cargo pants or leggings. Skirts and shorts must be finger tip length and sagging is not permitted.  If your child is not dressed in accordance with the dress code, you will be notified and your child maybe subject to disciplinary procedures in accordance with the student code of conduct and/or the school-wide discipline plan.

    · Polo: (hemmed) two or three  buttons at the top front with collar-short or long sleeve.Students 
    wearing polo shirts with more than three buttons will be required to change shirt. 

       · *****Designs, emblems, insignias, monograms and logos are prohibited

    · Under-shirts  and t-shirts, if worn, must be solid white  in color and can only be worn underneath the standard polo.


    · ***Solid color: Tan Khaki Only - No other color acceptable, 

    · Style must be cotton twill or cotton blend straight legged pants  No Cargo!

    · No jeans or jean style (rivets, prominent stitching...if they look like jeans, they will be considered jeans)

     · NO denim, NO sweatpants (this includes workout attire)

    · NO tight pants
    · Must be worn at waistline
    · Prominent designs, emblems, insignias, monograms or logos are prohibited


    · Solid color: ****Tan Khaki Only 

    · Style must be cotton twill or cotton blend - No Cargo!

    · No jeans or jean style (rivets, prominent stitching...if they look like jeans, they will be considered jeans)

    · NO denim, NO tight skirts or skorts 

    ·    Must be worn at waistline

    · Length: No shorter than 2" (2 inches) above the knee

    · Can be pleated, flat, or A-line

    · Designs, emblems, insignias, monograms and logos are prohibited


    · No sweatshirts allowed in the building

    · No hoods are to be worn up (covering your head) in the building


    · No tape, writing, customized stitching, stickers or other decorations on clothing.

    · No Slippers (if they look like slippers they will be considered slippers)

    · Hats may not be worn in building

    · Bandanas many not be worn on campus

     * Uniforms must be appropriate size and condition.

    * The dress code is effective upon arrival to school until departure from school.


      Surrattsville Registration Requirements 

       1) Proof of Birth: An original or certified copy of the student's birth certificate is required (copies not accepted)  

       * If a birth certificate is not available, a notarized birth certificate affidavit with substantiating documentation is required (available in the SHS counseling office).  

      *The student's legal name as shown on the original birth certificate will be entered in the student record.  

      *Changes to an original birth certificate must be supported by court documentation.  

      *A translation is required for certificates not in English.  

         2) Proof of Residence: Rental Lease / Property Deed (settlement paperswith current utility bill (power or gas only)  

         * The student must be accompanied by his/her birth parent or court-appointed guardian with whom he/she resides with at the time of enrollment (if guardianship, court documentation is required). The accompanying adult may be required to show photo ID.  

      * If the family is living in the residence of a friend/relative, a notarized residency affidavit (available in the SHS counseling office) is required and must be accompanied by the owners/renters lease or deed. 

      * Physical presence of the parent/guardian in the residence of the child is required for tuition-free enrollment. A change in enrollment status may be necessary if this condition is not met. 

      * The parent/guardian must notify the school when their home address changes and provide proof of the new residence. Moving out of Clinton City makes the student no longer eligible to attend Surrattsville. 

     Enrollment Appointment

     Once you have all document needed for registration, you may call (301) 599-2453 or email deshane.thomas@pgcps.org (Mid-June through Mid-August) or deshane.thomas@pgcps.org (all other months) to schedule your enrollment appointment. Below lists in detail what will be required from you prior to or at the enrollment appointment (much of which you will have the option to upload on the registration page or email to us prior to your appointment). All of the required items must be approved and on file before a student will be issued a SHS class schedule. 

    •   * If you do not have all the documentation and immunizations that are required for enrollment turned in by or at your appointment time, you will not be able to register and will be required to reschedule your appointment. If you are unsure of whether you meet these requirements, please call and ask the counseling office (301.599.2465) prior to your appointment.     

         * Please note that Surrattsville High School's registration requirements and    practices may be different from those of other PGCPS schools. What is required or practiced at one school may not be at SHS. 

          * Both the parent/guardian (listed on student birth certificate or court documents) and student are required to attend the enrollment appointment.

    ATTENDANCE:  Your son/daughter should be in school on time and in classes every day.  Time lost from instruction can never be regained simply by doing make-up work.  Illnesses and emergencies are excused absences; oversleeping and missing the bus are unexcused absences.  Students cannot be expected to perform in a satisfactory manner if they are not present daily for instruction.


    SCHOOL HOURS:  Classes begin promptly at 7:45 a.m. and conclude at 2:25 p.m.  It is a strictly enforced requirement that all students arrive on time to school daily.
