    A Note From The Principal

“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of their parents.” – Jane D. Hull

Dear Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members,

As we proceed into April, a large focus at school will be preparing the schedule for the completion of the required PARCC assessment. Below is a tentative schedule so that parents have an idea of when students will be tested. Please note that at times, changes are necessary depending on circumstances. Thanks to all for your support. Please remind students to put forth their best effort. Teachers and students have worked hard and are well prepared.

    Grade 3 – May 17th, May 20th, May 23rd

    Grade 4 – May 15th, May 16th, May 22nd

    Grade 5 – May 13th, May 14th, May 21st

    Grade 3 - April 26th, April 29th, May 6th, May 9th

    Grade 4 – April 24th, April 25th, May 6th, May 8th

    Grade 5 – May 1st, May 2nd, May 7th, May 10th

On a different note, I would like to request some help from parents in two areas. These areas are with regard to student behavior and attendance. March brought a spike in challenging behaviors from students.  Mr. Jones, the school counselor discussed and shared the importance of kindness and being cautious about the words we speak to others, ensuring they are positive. I am asking parents to please converse with your children about this important issue and briefly review expectations in the student handbook/code of conduct.

Unchecked negative comments and teasing can develop into bullying situations. It is important to note that there is a difference between bullying and student conflict. Bullying is intentional, repeated over time, with intent to harm. Student conflict can occur but very well may not be bullying, but still should be addressed. Our goal is to not only ensure students are ready academically for an increasingly complex world, but to ensure we grow the whole child socially as well. We work to be proactive with PBIS, guidance lessons, and other strategies, and do appreciate support from home.

I would like to extend a special thank you to our staff and volunteers not only for their day in and day out work to teach students, but for also facilitating after school clubs etc. Lewisdale ES truly has a great deal of after school events. This takes a significant amount of extra time outside the school day. The homework club, math club, ELO program, environmental club, America Counts etc. (this is not an all-inclusive list) as well as the events put on by our PTA, makes our school unique.

Thank you for your continued support and have a restful, peaceful and safe spring break.

    Educationally yours,

    Patricia Haith
