With cold weather on the way, community partners this week made sure that students would have warm attire.

Nearly 500 Beacon Heights Elementary students received new winter coats thanks to a community partnership with Operation Warm and FedEx. Dozens of volunteers gathered at the school to present students with new coats, help find the perfect fit and offer high-fives and smiles!

Beacon Heights is one of 10 schools nationwide to benefit from the “More Than A Coat” program this year.

“I am so excited for my kids and my families,” said Principal Lila Walker. “This is one less thing they have to worry about purchasing.”

National nonprofit Soles4Souls hosted a similar event at District Heights Elementary, providing 400 new boots courtesy of Timberland and Dansko. Volunteers from the National Shoe Retailers Association joined Interim CEO Dr. Monica Goldson at the school to help students lace up their new boots.

“Giving back to our communities is part of our core values,” said William Rowley, Sales Director for Timberland. “We believe you can do business and also do good.”
