  • General Test Information

    Tests are used to assess student achievement; target student, classroom, and program improvement; and inform parents of student progress. The various test administrations fulfill local, state, and federal mandate.

    The High School Assessments (H.S.A.) are tests in four core subjects: English, Government, Algebra/Data Analysis, and Biology. Students take each test whenever they complete the course. Passing scores are: Algebra/Data Analysis (412), English (396), Biology (400), and Government (394). There are other opportunities during the school year to retake the tests (October, January, April for seniors, and July). It is advisable for students to visit the following websites in order to prepare for the test(s): www.mdk12.org and/or www.hsaexam.org. Students must complete these requirement in order to graduate from high school. Please contact the testing office at 301.513.5400 ext. 376 for further information.

    Other Tests:
    • Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) a group of states working together to develop a set of assessments that measure whether students are on track to be successful in college and their careers.     • Scholastic Reading Inventory (S.R.I.) an inventory used to assess student reading and comprehension levels.
    • Formative Assessment Tests (F.A.S.T.) are given quarterly to assess knowledge in Biology and Government.
