• Bridging the Watershed 101 (Watershed Watchdogs)

Bridging the Watershed (BTW) is an outreach program of the Alice Ferguson Foundation,

PGCPS in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) and area schools, designed to promote student academic achievement, personal connections with the natural world, lifelong civic engagement, and environmental stewardship through hands-on curriculum- based outdoor studies in national parks and public lands.

The Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) has a partnership with Prince George's County Public Schools. The William S. Schmidt Center is the liaison that provides assistance with scheduling field studies for students and professional development for teachers. The field stud- ies are designed for middle and high school students. Introductory trainings are designed for PGCPS teachers unfamiliar with BTW and NPS and have not done a BTW field study. The focus will be on the mechanics of the program and familiarization of the parks. Teachers must attend or have attended a training to be able to schedule a field study. Transportation funds are available for field studies.
