Our PTA board seeks to build strong relationships in our community. It is our ultimate goal to produce a sense of cohesion and team work in all that we do. We are proud of our student body and our outstanding teachers and administrators. We will continue to build on the impressive academic scores of our students, by supporting them and providing our educators with the tools they need to teach and nurture our children. We will also honor our commitment to involve parents and caregivers as we acknowledge them as a child’s first teacher.
We look forward to working with you and encourage you to join us each month at our meetings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the PTA do?

The PTA helps parents and school staff to communicate and work together on issues we all care about.  We also work with the school to sponsor events throughout the year that bring the school community together—including cultural events and celebrations, a school potluck, and a May Fair at the end of the year.  And of course, the PTA raises money to provide things that the school system cannot afford, such as arts and other classroom enrichment, school supplies, and playground/grounds improvement.  The PTA also sponsors self-supporting after-school enrichment activities, such as language, art and science classes.  All of these efforts require parent involvement, so your participation makes a difference.

When are the PTA meetings?

PTA meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month, typically at 7 pm in the media center.  Occasionally we hold meetings at other times for a particular reason (for example, holding a couple of meetings at 4:30 or 5:00 pm to make it easier for teachers to attend).

Can I join even if I can’t attend the meetings?

Yes—absolutely.  Membership is only $5.00.  The PTA meetings are a good way for parents to meet and hear from each other, but there are lots of ways to be active in the PTA without attending the monthly meetings.  Many of the activities and events sponsored by the PTA are planned by phone and e-mail, and announcements of volunteer needs will come home in your child’s backpack.  If you have e-mail, you can join the PTA listserv to stay informed about PTA activities, events, and discussions.

How do I find out about PTA activities and events?

Announcements about PTA activities and events are included in the UPES school/PTA calendar and newsletters that come home in students’ backpacks each month.  We think it makes more sense for parents to receive a combined calendar and newsletter than to distribute a separate one for the PTA.

How do I sign up for the PTA listserve?

Send an e-mail (no subject, no message) to http://groups.google.com/group/upes-pta-listserve
