EAGLE NEWS!!!

May 3, 2017

Message from Ms. Davis

Last week was an extremely  busy week here at UPES!  Last Thursday’s Academic Night was a huge success.  We had a great turnout as parents and students enjoyed Reading, Math, and Science Learning Stations.  A huge thank you to the PTA for buying dinner for all of the teachers and staff who stayed after school to run the Academic Night stations.  Thank you to Ms. Jackson, Ms. Ramos, Ms. Stimson, and Mr. Favero for collaborating to create activities that were fun, relevant, and meaningful for students.  Thank you to Ms. Sanders for her collaboration with the PTA to organize a number of awesome school wide assemblies this year.  Friday’s Enviro Drum assembly was a huge hit with staff and students.  Lastly, thank you to the Kindergarten team for organizing the annual Arbor Day celebration with the Town of University Park.  We look forward to this celebration every year and our students sang like angels under the direction of Ms. Martin. Please pay close attention to the ‘Upcoming Events’ section of the newsletter as there are many activities occurring between now and the end of the year.  The next Eagle Newsletter will come home with students May 17, 2017.  If you need anything between now and then don’t hesitate to contact me via email Toi.Davis@pgcps.org or 301-985-1898.

Article

This is a great article from Santa Maria College’s Education Blog on helping girls navigate friendships.  As a parent of a 12 year old daughter I found the article extremely interesting and I thought I’d share it with the community and staff.

Transitional Students

Students transitioning to a new school as a result of a promotion to a different educational level, boundary change, participation in a specialty school or change in residence must provide proof of residency. Proof of residency may be established by any of the following documents: settlement papers, lease/rental agreement, deed of property, mortgage statement, letter from apartment complexes on official letterhead, or a current property tax bill.  Settlement papers, lease agreement, and rental agreements must be signed and dated by all parties.   Parents of students in grade 6 must come to UPES to update proof of residency by Wednesday, May 10, 2017 .

Parents of Pre-K students who are out of boundary, your child will be automatically enrolled in their boundary school for next year.  You will need to complete a new registration at the boundary school along with providing updated proof of residency.
