EAGLE NEWS!!!

February 15, 2017

Message from Ms. Davis

Great things are happening at UPES!  The students enjoyed the performances by Urban Artistry as they taught students the history of Hip Hop.   Students enjoyed the dancing,  interacting with the performers, and the overall performances immensely! We’d like to thank our PTA for providing  breakfast and lunch for the STEM Fair judges, for providing dinner for the teachers during the Special Programs Open House, and for sponsoring the February assemblies.   Please join us tomorrow night for our Black History Program which begins at 6:00 p.m.  We will enjoy performances from our own  UP Singers and the group Cultura Plenera.  It’s going to be a wonderful evening and we look forward to seeing our community out in full force. Lastly, thank you to all of the parents who contributed in large and small ways to make the Valentine’s Day parties a success.  The next Eagle Newsletter will come home with students March 1, 2017.  If you need anything between now and then don’t hesitate to contact me via email Toi.Davis@pgcps.org or 301-985-1898.

Art Show

During the months of February and March The Visual Arts Office is sponsoring a Prince George’s County Youth Art Month Exhibition. The exhibition will be on display from Wednesday February 22nd through Monday March 6th at the mall at Prince Georges; 3500 East West Highway, Route 410, Hyattsville MD, 20782. The objectives of the Youth Art Month Exhibition are to direct attention to the value of art education; to recognize that art is a necessity for the full development of a better quality of life for all people; to expand art programs in schools and stimulate new ones; encourage commitment to the arts by students, organizations, and individuals everywhere; and to recognize art education is a viable component in the total education curricula that develops citizens of a global society. Please join us to celebrate the arts and our students’ hard work with a special reception on Wednesday February 22nd from 6 to 8 PM.

Celebrations

It is important that families follow PGCPS Administrative Procedure 01160 when providing refreshments for birthday parties or celebrations.  “In order to protect the health of all students and avoid the risk of food borne illness, allergic reaction or food intolerance, only foods that are pre-packaged with a label; from a licensed commercial vendor and sources; whole fresh fruits and vegetables; and, or prepared by Nutrition Services will be allowed to be served to students.”

Farewell

Mr. Aaron Springer, supplemental substitute  art teacher resigned at the end of January.  Mr. Springer provided supplemental art to UP students for about 9 years.  We’d like to thank him for his time and efforts to support the art skills of our students and we wish him all the best with his future endeavors.

Read Across America

To celebrate Read Across America this March, Pre-K through Second grade will host the Annual Dr. Seuss Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast. We are excited to sing songs from Seussical the Musical, while enjoying a plate of green eggs and ham. Volunteers and staff will dress as their favorite Seuss characters and hopefully hear a story from a Cat in a Hat! Join in the fun the morning of March 2nd by volunteering to cook or serve breakfast.
