Alyse Sanders

I would like to introduce myself. I am Alyse Sanders, your new Parent Engagement Assistant.

I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, I  grew up in South Florida, and have resided in NY, GA, and Severna Park, MD has been my home for the past 8 years. I am a mom to a terrific teenage boy who loves football, video games, and cooking gourmet food. I love to sing, and I have been singing in wedding/corporate bands for over 20 years.

I have 8 years' experience in the Anne Arundel County School System as a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant, interpreter, and translator to my previous school's Hispanic community. I am very honored to have earned this important position, and will work hard to provide University Park Elementary's  families community outreach services, as well as a bridge to connect communication to all aspects of this wonderful school!

Thank you for welcoming me and I look forward to an amazing year!

Community Builders Upcoming Events

Our goal as a school community is to help those in our local, national and international communities that are less fortunate. We see the entire student body as community builders; every positive effort helps to make a difference.

The representatives bring ideas from each class to the meetings and then we decide on what initiatives to pursue as a school of community builders. This fall we have several upcoming events that we wanted to share:

October 10-14, we will host the “Food Collection Smackdown.” The food collected goes to help students and families in our local community. We work with the “Help By Phone” Food Bank at the University Baptist Church. Students are encouraged to bring donations to support their class goal. Any new items with current “sell by dates” are accepted. Think of what you would like to have to eat and bring that! This year we are having a NFL competition. Bring food and show your team spirit.

November 16 will be Family Movie Night in the gym. All are welcome. Bring you dinner and eat here - along with some snacks to share and your own filled water bottle. Movie begins promptly at 6:00pm! See you there!

We will make holiday cards during December for nursing home patients, shut-ins and those living in the homeless shelters in the area. Last year we delivered over 450 cards to people in the area. Let’s continue this tradition of letting people know that we care! (If you want to make cards at home to bring in, please sign it as “UPES Student or Family.”)  Thank you.

With a grateful heart,

Christy Neff, Community Builders Faculty Sponsor

Smile Maryland Dentists will  come to University Park  ES Monday, October 24, 2016 to provide services to our students.  Please complete and return the attached the permission slip if you’d like for your child(ren) to receive dental services.

Morning Car Riders

Students should not arrive to school before 7:30 a.m.  The reason for this request is that there is no UPES staff member available to supervise students prior to 7:30 a.m.  We have shared the new procedure with students and we are now sharing the information with parents.  As of last week we had about 8-14 students who consistently arrived before 7:30 a.m.  Parents  who leave students unsupervised, will receive a call  to return to school to wait with their child.  We know asking parents to return to school is unusual but we have to ensure students are safe at all times.  Lastly, parents are not to drop off students via the staff parking lot.  The cars coming in and out of the parking lot pose a serious safety hazard for our students who are walkers.  Lastly, there is signage indicating that the lot is for staff only.  We have contacted Chief  Wynnick to assist us with providing  our students with a safe arrival to school each morning. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.
