EAGLE NEWS!!!

March 16, 2016

Message from Ms. Davis

Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring last week’s performance by Christylez Bacon, the human beatbox and Monday’s Bread making assembly for grade 3 students.  Students are truly enjoying the performances and activities while learning that talent and creativity can be displayed in many forms.  We’d also like to thank the PTA for providing funds for field trips as all  grade levels have planned to extend the learning for students by attending field trips.  Thankfully, the forecast is calling for sunny skies  later in the week as  third grade students are scheduled for a field trip to Mount Vernon on Friday.  I know it’s hard to believe but Spring Break is right around the corner.  Please use the time off to relax and rejuvenate as it’s full steam ahead when we return April 5th.   The next Eagle Newsletter will come home with students April 6, 2016; however, if you need anything between now and then don’t hesitate to contact me via email Toi.Davis@pgcps.org or 301-985-1898.

Career Day

We are proud to host our annual parent and community Career Day at University Park Elementary!  We are currently in need of Career Day participants in various occupations to volunteer to speak with students about their careers. Our Career Day will be held May 20th from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Career Day is for all students in grades K-6. You do not have to stay the whole day. Just let us know what hours work for you. Each session is for 30 minutes.

The format of the event is not formal, and you do not have to prepare a speech. However, feel free to come dressed up in uniform! It is also optional to bring items to give away to the students, but if you choose to bring in anything, please contact us so that we can provide you with a number. We strongly suggest handouts for the students with information about your career.

We look forward to you participating in this fun event. Please contact Ms. Cruz (madeline.cruz@pgcps.org) or  Ms. Neff (Christy.neff@pgcps.org ) for more information!

Green School Certification

Thanks to Ms. Neff, team leader of our Green Schools effort and the committed staff of UPES.  We officially submitted our Green Schools application  March 4, 2016 and we are very proud of our submission.

Science Bowl

By the time this newsletter is published, we will know whether we have retained our title as Science Bowl Champions.  Our students competed March 15th in the Semi-Finals with the possibility of going to the finals. The students have worked very hard and were excited to compete.  We are proud of our team!  Liliyah Ben Aissa, Abbie Coleman, Jordan Chamberlin, Mia Helfrich, Ryley Komisar-Bury, and Sean Leonard.  Thank you for being so committed!
