Message from Ms. Davis

Great things are happening at UPES!  InterAct Theater performed the  play ‘One Gold Coin’ for students last week.   The students enjoyed the singing, interaction with the performers, and the overall performances immensely! We’d like to thank the PTA for providing a portion of the funding for the InterAct Theater Workshops and the final performances.   Kudos to Ms. Bennett and her G.O.L.D. Team students as they wrote and performed an original skit for the entire school body on “Bullying” to close out Peace Week.  The performance showcased the many talents of our students while imparting an important message. Lastly, thank you to all of the parents who contributed in large and small ways to make the Valentine’s Day parties a success.  The next Eagle Newsletter will come home with students March 3, 2016.  If you need anything between now and then don’t hesitate to contact me via email or 301-985-1898.

During the months of February and March The Visual Arts Office is sponsoring a Prince George’s County Youth Art Month Exhibition. The exhibition will be on display from Tuesday February 23rd through Monday March 7th at the mall at Prince Georges; 3500 East West Highway, Route 410, Hyattsville MD, 20782. The objectives of the Youth Art Month Exhibition are to direct attention to the value of art education; to recognize that art is a necessity for the full development of a better quality of life for all people; to expand art programs in schools and stimulate new ones; encourage commitment to the arts by students, organizations, and individuals everywhere; and to recognize art education is a viable component in the total education curricula that develops citizens of a global society. Please join us to celebrate the arts and our students’ hard work with a special reception on Thursday February 25th from 6 to 8 PM.

Read Across America

To celebrate Read Across America this March, Pre-K through Second grade will host the Annual Dr. Seuss Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast. We are excited to sing songs from Seussical the Musical, while enjoying a plate of green eggs and ham. Join in the fun the morning of March 1st by volunteering to cook or serve breakfast.
