Message from Ms. Davis

Happy Holidays!  Great things are happening for children at UPES!  We have been awarded a $500 grant from Exxon Mobile to use at our discretion on behalf of students.  This grant was awarded randomly to area schools from Exxon Mobile through their marketing company Petroleum Marketing Group (PMG).  We’d  like to thank Krista Atteberry and her family for offering their gorgeous home as a venue for our staff holiday party.  We truly appreciate their generosity.  Finally, we have a little less than a week  before students and staff leave for a well-deserved winter break!  Please be aware that the winter vacation begins Tuesday, December 22nd  after dismissal and lasts until January 3rd.    School reopens  Monday, January 4, 2016.  The next newsletter will come home Wednesday, January 6, 2016.  Until then have a joyous and safe holiday!!!

Community Builders

Building Community One Card At A Time

The Community Builders would like to ask individuals, classes and families to make holiday cards for senior adults living in nursing homes, living alone or in homeless shelters.

The cards should be festive and colorful and cheerful. Use recycled and repurposed materials to make a one-of-a-kind card!

The cards should NOT have student names on them – first or last. Simply sign it with, “Students from University Park Elementary School.”

Turn it into Ms. Neff by Monday, Dec.21. They will be sorted and delivered thereafter.

**This makes a great INDOOR recess activity! Students can also make a card at home with their family and bring it in to share!

The Community in Action

St. Jerome's Café serves the community with a hot meal each Thursday. Established in 1991, the Café, which operates in the Gold Room, serves about 50 people each week. In addition, bag lunches are available for take home for later in the week.
