EAGLE NEWS!!!

September 16, 2015

Message from Ms. Davis

This week promises to be a productive 4 day week!  Classroom teachers in all subject areas are now teaching and assessing the curriculum standards.  Please be on the lookout for information about our Claire’s Gourmet Fall Fundraiser.  The white envelope  with all of the information you need will come home this Friday.  The money raised from this fundraiser will tremendously help our entire school. Any way you can contribute to making it a success is greatly appreciated.  Our first PTA Meeting of the year is tonight at 7:00pm in the Media Center.  We encourage you to attend if you are able.  The next Eagle Newsletter  will be coming home on Wednesday, October 7th.  If you have any questions between now and then, please contact me at Toi.Davis@pgcps.org or 301-985-1898.

Meet the new staff

Mehret Ghebrekidan

Mehret Ghebrekidan married in Vatican City, Rome Italy.  She is the Italian teacher who comes from another Prince George’s County school.  Besides her foreign K-12 education she has a Masters Degree in Guidance Counseling from Bowie State University. She has been teaching all of  her life except for the five years that she worked for the House of Representatives.  Now she is here in the most inviting and supportive community. Mehret values the greatness of the parents, students, administration, and colleagues of UPES. Finally, she is grateful to you all for allowing her to be part of this great journey for our wonderful children!

Emily Sturges

Emily Sturges is a new graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University and will serve as one of our art teachers for the upcoming school year. Emily recently moved to Maryland from Virginia and is excited to get to know a new area. While at VCU Emily majored in Art Education and minored in Art History and Craft and Material Studies. She is thrilled to begin her teaching career in Prince George's County and feels so fortunate to have been placed at such a great school. This past summer Emily coached a Northern Virginia Dive Team for the ninth year. While summer is one of her favorite times of year, it could not match the excitement of a new school year! Emily is looking forward to meeting all of her new students and to the masterpieces they will create together this year. She feels right at home at University Park Elementary!

Please reinforce and add to what your child learns each day. This will help your child focus their attention on their education.
