Principal’s Corner:  Our 3rd – 6th graders did a fantastic job on the MSA!  I am so proud of their hard work and effort!  I know their scores will be great!  Thank you so much for bringing your children to school on time, with lots of sleep the night before and a good breakfast in the morning!  We should get their preliminary scores in June.

Thank you so much for donating to our Community Builder’s, “Make Change Happen,” for tornado victims in Henryville, IN!  We appreciate your generosity!

Great news!  The school system, working with funds from the Maryland State Dept. of Education, will be renovating our pods this summer!  The goal is to complete the construction during the summer months so that the PreK – 3rd grade classrooms will be completely finished (with enclosed walls!) by the end of the summer – hopefully, our students will not have to be housed in temporary buildings!  I will keep you updated!

The UPES Science Committee is proud to announce the 4th, 5th and 6th grade Top Ten Science Fair Projects!  The committee will have to narrow these thirty excellent projects down to just five projects to represent University Park ES at the Kids for Science County Science Fair in May at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.  Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding accomplishment!

4th Grade:  Isabella Baker, Michael Baugher, Malvina Bhatia-Guerin, James Dawson, Nathaniel Horn, Avyon Lanier, Alexander Martin, Sebestyn Toszegi-Sabath, Chibueze Uzomah, Chloe Widman, and Alessio Zaun-Palmisano.

5th Grade:  Betsy Barrett, Daniel Hamilton, Amelia Komisar-Bury, Adil Martaza, Andrew Martin, Nina McGranahan, Riley Mote, Madeline Murphy, Henry Niepoetter, and Surya Pukazhenthi.

6th Grade:  Jasmine Booker, Joshua Brogi, Charlie Dawson, Baxter Hamilton, Mary Heitkemper, Tesse Ozga, Anna Meade, Molly Moore, Alfreda Ruiz-Malca, and Vivian Tran.

Good luck to our Science Bowl team!  They will be competing in the finals on April 17th!  I know they will do a fantastic job!  Cheering for you, Charlie Dawson, Madeleine Wonneberger, Alexis Arneson, Louis Catacalos, Vivian Tran, and Surya Pukazhenthi!

Our African American History Month Instrumental Concert has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 28th from 6-8:30 p.m. and it will be combined with our International Dinner!  Come share a dish from your culture and enjoy a lovely evening of entertainment!  Please also feel free to wear ethnic attire from your country of origin for the International Parade!

Our choir will be singing the National Anthem on Opening Day at the Bowie Baysox Game on Friday, April 6th!  Tickets can be bought that evening from Mr. Fominaya at 5:30 in the parking lot – this is also a fundraiser for our UPES Music Department!  The students will sing at 6:55 pm, and there will be fireworks after the game!

In order to save paper, we will no longer be sending home the parent newsletter to everyone in paper.  If you already receive emails from the school, you will now receive the entire Wednesday Envelope by email.  If you do not receive emails but would like to, fill out the form in this week’s envelope.  If you still would like to receive the folder by paper, please fill out the form and send it in. Thank you!
