Principal’s
Corner: It was wonderful seeing everyone today at Parent Visitation Day! You are always welcome to come see
our students’ great minds at work!
As parents, you are our most important partners, and we appreciate your
support!
In
honor of American Education Week, this Friday will be “Continuing Education
Day!” Please have your children
wear college/university sweat/t-shirts to school!
It was also wonderful to see so many of
you during Parent Conference Day! Working together to give your children
the best education possible is our highest goal! Please know that if you have any questions or concerns at any
time, we are here. Do not hesitate to email/call us!
Many
thanks to our PTA board and members for the wonderful Open House they held on
November 4th for prospective parents! They spoke beautifully about our
academic program and fantastic staff.
J Thank you, Becky Widman,
Mary Durkin, Karin Carlson, Kris Moss, Katherin Herberholz, Imke Ahlf-Wien,
Lily Baker, Jennifer Beckman, Christine Becraft, Ellen Thorp, Gayatri Varma,
Suzanne Whelton, Sarah Treado, and Dana Campbell!
Thank
you for contributing to our Food Drive this week! We are collecting canned/boxed goods to
feed the hungry in our area! The
Community Builders and GOLD Committee are spearheading this effort, and I am
proud of our students for thinking of others!

welcome to join us!
Many thanks to the PTA for printing our
new Student Directory! Please
remember to keep the information confidential and within our school
community. Many
thanks, also, to the PTA for the delicious snacks and lunch they brought for
the staff on Parent Conference Day!
That was such a
lovely surprise, and so appreciated!
We
are starting the Eagle Guides Program! This
program connects families who are new to the University Park Elementary School
Community with families who are more ‘seasoned’. The goal is to make the transition for newer families (‘New
Eagles’) easier and to strengthen our school community. Please see the flyer included in this
Wednesday Envelope – we hope you will sign up! Many thanks to Janel Tillman for this fantastic idea and for
getting the program started!
Our
school has started a Healthy School Initiative! As
part of this effort, we will be working to include more exercise and healthy
habits into our school day. In an effort to reinforce healthy eating habits
here at school, we would like to encourage parents to bring only one
"fun" food (cake or cupcakes) item for birthday parties and then supplement
the rest of the food with healthy options such as: apple slices, grapes,
carrots, cheese sticks, pretzels, and bottled water. It’s just a small way to make a difference! J
There
is a new e-alert system that will provide Prince George’s County Public Schools
(PGCPS) staff, parents and community members with more options for updates and
information. Starting now, users can sign up to
receive emergency alerts, newsletters and information about upcoming events by
email or text message. To subscribe, visit www.pgcps.org and click the PGCPS
Alerts Text and Email button. Subscription options may be changed at any
time. This system will become the
primary source for PGCPS emergency alerts and updates. Soon we are hoping to have this
capability on the school level for University Park!
Please
visit our PTA’s Facebook and Twitter pages for information and pictures from
our school!
