     Principal’s Corner: We had a wonderful turnout for our Back to School Nights!  It was great seeing all of you, and I’m sure the information the teachers gave out was very helpful!  Thank you so much for your book and game donations – they went directly to the classrooms!  Please always feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or questions.  You are our most valuable partners in educating your children! 

     I hope you will join the PTA!  It is only $5.00 per member, and very worthwhile!  The PTA does a fantastic job of supporting our students and staff, and they truly bring our school community together!  Please fill out the form at the bottom of this newsletter and send it into school in a sealed envelope if you’d like to join!  By the way, Lisa Tate is our new PTA Treasurer, and she is a wonderful addition to the PTA board!  We truly appreciate all of the outstanding work that Kristin McCue has done as the treasurer the last two years! J

     Many thanks to all of the families who participated in our chocolate bar fundraiser!!  We sold 250 boxes – wow!!  The money we earn will go towards buying new computers and educational materials.  I can’t thank you enough!!

      Two new staff members have joined our UPES family!  Becky Szelc is our new first grade teacher; she taught first grade at Montpelier Elementary before coming to University Park!  She received rave reviews, and we are very lucky to have her!  We also have a new part time music teacher, Jessica Harmon, who is taking the place of Dr. Moye.  We are very glad she’s here!     

     Attention, parents who are new to University Park Elementary!  The PTA is holding a Newcomer’s Wine and Cheese Gathering at Maby Palmisano’s and Tony Zaun’s residence (6715 – 44^th Avenue) on Saturday, Sept. 24^th from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.  Leave your children with your favorite babysitter, and come have a great time meeting everyone!  RSVP by Sept. 22^nd to Maby Palmisano at mabyp2002@yahoo.com.

     PTA Citrus Sale:  Buy juicy oranges and grapefruits from Florida Indian River Groves as part of the healthiest fundraiser ever organized by the UPES PTA to help support classroom enrichment programs. Consider buying these delicious fruits for your family and friends for this Holiday Season!  You can order on-line at: https://sites.google.com/site/ptaupes/home/citrus-sale.

When ordering, select “Local Distribution” so that your

     Thanks to the Intercollegiate Athletics Department and the Office of Community Relations at the University of Maryland, we are receiving 800 tickets to the October 1^st football game vs. Towson University at the Capital One Byrd Stadium!!  Each family can have 4 free tickets – just fill out the form below and send it in ASAP!  Also, the University of MD is giving us 200 free student t-shirts!  Please specific how many t-shirts you would like and the size.  First come, first serve!

     Please register your Giant card to earn points for our school!  Our ID code is 00594, and the password is IFET.  If you have a Target VISA card, you can register to help our school, also.  Target will donate 1% of your purchases to UPES!   We are also registered with “My Coke Rewards for Schools.”  Look at your favorite Coca-Cola beverages to get codes, and then enter them online to get points and donate them to University Park Elementary.
