Principal’s Corner: We’re
sending out the newsletter a week early, just to make sure everyone gets the
latest scoop before the holiday! It was so exciting to have the Washington
Capitals at UPES last Wednesday!! Many thanks to Ms. Neff for
arranging for their visit! Players Mike Knuble, Michal Neuvirth,
Assistant Coach Bob Woods, and mascot Slapshot were a huge hit with the
kids! What a blast everyone had!
The Caps donated $5,000 worth of equipment to our school, which is absolutely
amazing. The video they made of the visit will be part of the Caps
website, and parts will be played on the Jumbo-tron during their games!
It will also be included in their Winter Classic, which plays on HBO on January
1st!! Yes, that's right, we'll be television stars!!
Our choir, under the direction of Mr.
Fominaya and Dr. Tatum, did a beautiful job performing at the Prince George’s
Mall last Thursday! Many
thanks to the parents who chaperoned and those who came to hear them
sing! The students sounded amazing, as always!
Our Choir, UP Singers, and Band will be
performing tonight in our cafeteria
at 7 p.m. I know it will be
an outstanding show! The students
have been practicing a great deal, and it has really paid off! I am so sorry I am going to miss
it. L My son
is performing in his choir at the same time! But our UPES students performed twice during the day today,
which I truly enjoyed. I know you
will, too!
The
second FluMist Clinic will take place at UP on January 6th during the school day. This is for students who have already had their first
vaccination and need a second. All
of their forms have already been turned in. If for any reason you do not want your child to get the
second FluMist, please send in a note as soon as possible.
Our
students go out to recess whenever the weather is above freezing! (This includes the Wind Chill
Factor.) Please remember to send
your children with a warm coat, hat, and gloves every day. It’s a great idea to write their name
on all of their winter clothing – we have many items in the Lost and Found that
we don’t know who they belong to!
Please feel free to check the Lost and Found in the cafeteria for
missing items!
Just a reminder – all students who plan
to buy lunch should deposit their money in their lunch account in the cafeteria
before they go to class in the morning!
Science
Fair backboards are now on sale! White
backboards are $4.00 and color boards are $5.00! Please send in cash or checks made out to UPES in a labeled
envelope with your child’s name and teacher.
Our Food Drive has been such a wonderful success that
we are continuing it until Dec. 17th! Our counselor, Ms.
Bennett, is arranging baskets of food for our own UPES families in need for the
Winter holidays. Thank you so much
for your generosity, it has really made a difference!
