Principal’s Corner:  It was wonderful seeing so many parents attend our Halloween parade and Sing-A-Long!  Dr. Tatum and Mr. Fominaya did an amazing job, and the students had a blast!  The UP Singers sounded great! Thanks to all of the parents who came to help our kids get dressed in their costumes, as well as help with the class parties!

Report cards will be released on November 15th, and Parent Conference Day is November 12th.  If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please ask his/her teacher for a conference.  We want our students to succeed at the highest levels, and we are here to work with you to make that happen!  On Conference Day, you do not need to sign in at the main office; proceed directly to your child’s classroom.  Please let us know if you need an interpreter.

Save the date!  Thursday, Nov. 17th will be Parent Visitation Day from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.!  Please feel free to come observe your child working hard in class!  In addition, on Friday, Nov. 19th, the PTA will be holding an Open House for parents of children who are now in preschool or currently attend private school.  There will be a presentation in the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. for them, followed by a tour of the school.  Spread the word!

Science Fair backboards are now on sale!  White backboards are $4.00 and color boards are $5.00!  Please send in cash or checks made out to UPES in a labeled envelope with your child’s name and teacher.

A few reminders:  If you are picking up your child early, you must sign them out in the office.  If your child normally rides the bus but you are planning for them to get home in another way, you must write a note for the teacher and the office letting them know.  Also, our playground and field can only be used by our Before and After Care Program daily from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m., due to licensing procedures.  Thank you in advance for respecting this rule.

Many thanks to Suzanne Whelton for donating 200 books to our students!  What a wonderful gift! Also, thanks to the many parents who came to help with Fall Fest!  Our PreK, kindergarten and first grade students had a fantastic day that they will remember for a long time!

Parents, we are always looking for volunteers to help with recess duty!  You are welcome to come any day between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.!  Please sign in at the office. J

From the Cafeteria:  We will be selling a new a la carte item - a small Rice Krispie treat, for just 25 cents!  This is an addition to what is already sold as an a la carte.  This will start the week of November 8th, and will be offered two days a week.

Muchas gracias for all of your support with the Community Builders’ School Store!  The students raised over $500 for charity!  They are also sponsoring “Hats-On Day” on November 11th.  Students and staff can donate money to wear a hat during the day.  Proceeds will go to curing pediatric cancer!

The Math Homework Hotline, run by Prince George’s County Public Schools, is open!  Students can call for math help on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4 – 5 p.m.  You can tune into Comcast channel 96, Verizon channel 38, or view in real time on our Prince George’s County homepage.

Parents, if you shop at Giant Food Stores, please register your A + Bonus Card on line or at the store!  Our school code is 00594.  The school receives a percentage of the total amount spent.  Last year, we received over $900 at the end of the school year!  Thank you!
