Principal’s Corner:  We’re sending out this extra newsletter to keep you up to date on all of the exciting things that are happening!  We have four Field Days coming up, and we need volunteers to make them a success!  The dates are:

·         Thursday, May 27th – Grades 1&2

·         Tuesday, June 1st – Grades 3&4

·         Thursday, June 3rd – Grades 5&6

·         Monday, June 7th – Grades PreK&K

If you can help out from 8:15 – 11:00 a.m. on any of those days, please fill out the section at the bottom of the newsletter and send it to our PE teacher, Ms. Neff.  Thank you!

You have probably noticed the gorgeous mural that our art teacher, Mrs. Linder, and her husband are installing on the front of the building!  Our students, staff and parents all contributed to making the mural under Mrs. Linder’s direction, and I love it!!  I appreciate all of her hard work creating this lasting treasure, it adds so much to our school!  Many thanks to the PTA for funding this wonderful project!

Sixth Grade Parents – you must show us your proof of residency by June 1st in order for your child to be registered for middle school!  This is a state-wide policy.  Please bring into the office your proof of residency and two utility bills.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our registrar, Ms. Lee.

Parents, just a reminder of our visitation policy.  We are always glad to have you at UPES!  You are very welcome to walk into school with your children in the morning.  If you plan to stay after 8:00 a.m., please sign in at the office and put on a visitor’s sticker.  If you’d like to observe your child, please remember to sign in at the office, tell the secretaries the purpose of your visit, then observe in the classroom unobtrusively so as to not interrupt instruction.  If you would like to drop off forgotten homework, lunches, instruments, etc, just pop into the office and we will take them down for you.  We appreciate having so many involved, wonderful parents, and so many who volunteer!  Our school is outstanding because of your involvement!

Mark your calendars for our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, June 4th at 7:30 a.m.!  Invitations will be coming home soon!

Before and After Care registration will take place on Monday, June 7th from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m.  The B&A Office will hold a lottery to decide who will fill the open spots for next school year.  Every parent who comes between 5:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. will be given a card to fill out.  The cards will all be placed in a box.  B&A staff, as well as Ms. Freeman and I, will pick the names from the box the next day.  Parents will be notified as to whether their students have been selected from the lottery to fill a slot, or whether they will be placed on the waiting list.  There is NO NEED to camp out or wait ahead of time.  Again, every single parent who comes between 5 and 5:45 will receive a card to fill out.  Your child must live in our attendance area and be registered for the 2010 – 2011 school year in order to qualify for the lottery.  Ms. Lee, our registrar, will be happy to register you during the normal school day, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Cheryl Axenfeld, B&A Director at (301)984-1894.
