Principal’s Corner: Thanks to everyone for a fantastic Staff Appreciation Week! The teachers and staff loved the flowers, chocolate, school supplies and awards that the children brought them! The PTA spoiled us with cookies, raffle baskets, breads and muffins for breakfast, a delicious lunch, M&M prescriptions, and gift cards!! The staff said many times that this was the best Appreciation Week they have ever had! Many thanks to these folks for all of the PTA treats: Karen Ahalt, Carmen Booker, Katie Wolfe, Julie McLaren, Debbie Levensen, Rumi Matsuyama, Lori Farrar, Maby Palmisano, Annarita Mariotti, Roberta Kisker, Lisa Morrison, Michelle Hermanson, Kristi Bahrenburg, Betsi Griffith, Ruthie White, Ellen O’Neill, Sonja Parker, Emily Jackson, Suzie Whelton, and Sherry Waldrep!
Many thanks to the PTA for the fantastic Open House on April 23rd! Many people attended, and we heard many compliments about our students, staff, academic program and PTA from the visitors! I appreciate Becky Widman for all of her hard work chairing the event, and to the Newcomers Committee for their commitment in showcasing our wonderful school and welcoming others to our community! Many thanks to Imke Ahlf-Wien, Karin Carlson, Lori Farrar, Katherin Herberholz, Kris Moss, Maby Palmisano, Adriana Altura, Jacqueline Bradley Chacon, and Becky McDermott! Thanks also to our staff members for speaking: Barbara Duffy, Chris Fominaya, and Valerie Lee!
We had an outstanding Career Day on April 22nd! The students had the opportunity to hear about many different jobs, and this opened up great discussions of future possibilities, and the work that must be done to achieve those goals! Many thanks to Marlene Bennett, Dawna Phillips, and Christy Neff for organizing Career Day, and to these fine people for volunteering to speak! Thanks to Karen Ahalt, Sonja Parker, Mari Hoefler, Lisa Morrison, Christine Moss, Robert Moss, Mrs. Sutherland, Rafael Lorente, Judge Dwight Jackson, Lesley Krauland, Donna Harrington, Randie Reilly, and Kathleen Hotakainen!
Sarah Elder sent me a list of all of the folks who helped make the Azalea Classic such a success! I wanted to thank them again – Kim Fisher, Linda Verrill, Carolyn Marzke, Beth Domingo, Jamie Nickerson and her husband, Rich, Ellen O’Neill, Karoline Mortensen, Tom Williams, Kate Quinn, Bobbi Pohl, Leslie Krauland, Gayatri, Ryan Rhodes, Emily Rhodes, Jenny Cornejo, Mary Baugher, Moira Abernethy, the UP Girl Scout Troop, and the ERHS Honor Society!
Many thanks to Lisa Morrison, Jamie Morrison, and Sarah Howard, as well as all of the 5th and 6th grade parents, for the fantastic dance on April 23rd! The kids had a blast!
One of our parents, Mr. Charles Simpson, was our Principal for the Day on April 30th! He truly enjoyed the tour of the school and seeing our students hard at work!
Many thanks to all of the parents, students and staff members who came in to help build the set for the musical on Saturday! They got a lot of work
accomplished – finishing the sound system, building the stage, making props, you name it! Thanks to Chris Fominaya and his mom, dad, and brother; Brad Tatum, James and Carmen Booker; Mrs. Farrar, Mrs. Waldrep, Mr. Heitkemper, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Hurtt, Mr. Markel, Mrs. Tuit, Mr. Hebbard, Mr. Wonneberger, Ms. Boswell, Mr. Guesin, Mrs. Ahalt, Mrs. Niepoetter, Mrs. Phful – and to Mrs. Dawson, Carmen Booker and Michelle Hermanson for making costumes!
By the way, I hope you all will come see our fabulous musical, “H.M.S. Pinafore!” Tickets are $5.00 if purchased ahead of time, shirts are $10.00, and DVDs are $20.00! Our students will perform on May 13th, 14th, and 15th at 7 p.m., so don’t miss out!
Many thanks to two of our parents, Kris Moss and Dana Campbell, who arranged for Sally Davies, an author/illustrator, to visit and talk with our students all day on May 4th! Many thanks to the PTA for funding this wonderful opportunity! It was a great way to get the kids pumped for next year’s Write a Book Contest!
Now that the weather is getting warmer, I wanted to remind everyone that we do have a school system dress code. Shirts should be continuous from neckline to waist; the entire mid-section should be covered. Skirts, dresses, and shorts should be no shorter than fingertip level. Pants should cover undergarments. Thank you!
