The Eagle Express
University Park Elementary
March 3rd, 2010
Principal’s Corner: As many of you have heard, our last day of school has been changed to June 16th to make up for the snow days. The Reading and Math Maryland School Assessments (MSA), however, will be taking place on the original dates – March 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th. Our teachers are determined that our students will be prepared and will do an outstanding job! It is imperative that your children be in school on time with a big, healthy breakfast to start their day. Students in 3rd – 6th grade who are at school on time each day of the exams will get ice cream from the PTA on March 19th! With your help, UPES will shine!
I am very proud of our Science Bowl team! They competed on February 23rd, and beat Whitehall Elementary! Our team then played against Magnolia and lost on the last question by only 5 points!! They did an outstanding job!
Many thanks to Lisa Morrison and Sarah Howard for planning the 6th grade dance last Friday! The kids had a blast (so did the adults!) and Mr. Morrison was a fantastic DJ! Thanks to all of the parents who sent in drinks, snacks, paper goods, decorations, and door prizes. Thanks to the parents who chaperoned!
Order your yearbook today! They are only $18.00 (payable to UPES), and make a wonderful memento of this school year. Order forms are due on March 12th, and the yearbooks will arrive on May 26th.
Book logs are due on March 25th! Last quarter, 86% of our students turned one in and went to the movies in our gym! This quarter, all students who turn in a book log will get to go to a Sock Hop on April 9th!
Our Career Day will take place on Thursday, April 22nd from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. We would love for you to come showcase your career! Any time you can volunteer that morning would be great! If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form below and send it in to our counselor, Marlene Bennett.
