Principal’s Corner: It has been a wild and wooly two weeks with all of the snow! I hope everyone had a safe, warm, fun break. It is GREAT to be back at school with the students! There is so much to do! It is going to be a very concentrated three weeks before the MSA test on March 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th. It is imperative that your children are in school, especially on the testing dates! We appreciate your support.
We are enjoying Peace Week this week, thanks to the GOLD Committee! Students and staff are wearing these colors in honor of peace:
Tuesday – White, for new beginnings
Wednesday – Blue, for peace and calmness
Thursday – Grey, for friendship between all people
Friday – Pink and red, for being courteous, kind, and resolving conflicts in a peaceful
manner.
This Friday, our instrumental students will be performing in our 3rd Annual Black History Concert, under the direction of Mr. Dave Spitzberg! The students have been practicing hard, and it looks to be a wonderful show! Their performances are at 8:20 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 7:30 p.m. for families. I hope you will join us!
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon sponsor forms are due on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd. This is a great fundraiser for a very worthy cause. The Math-A-Thon promotes math while helping St. Jude’s work to cure children’s cancer. If you have not sent in your consent form to receive a sponsor form, please do so as soon as possible.
Good luck to our Science Bowl team – Jesse Meintjes (captain), Adam Wasserman, Ryan Montesi, Clara Janzen, Catherine Catacalos, and Gary Harris! They have been studying and working hard with Mr. Favero for months, and I know they will do a fantastic job! Their game is scheduled for February 23rd!
Order your yearbook today! They are only $18.00, (payable to UPES), and will be a wonderful way to remember many of the great things we did this year, as well as all of your friends! Order forms are due on March 12th. The yearbooks will arrive on May 28th. Don’t miss this great opportunity!
On February 26th, we are holding a 6th grade dance in the gym from 7-9 p.m.! ONLY University Park Elementary 6th graders are allowed to attend! Admission is a pair of shoes to donate to Haiti, with $1.00 for shipping! (Any donation to Haiti would be welcome, if you can’t donate shoes.) This is NOT a date dance – everyone will be going as friends! Letters have been sent home – it should be a lot of fun! Many thanks to Lisa Morrison and Sarah Howard for organizing the event!
Since MSA is right around the corner, we’ll be having an MSA Spirit Week for the whole school during the week of March 1st! On each day, we’ll be wearing something special:
Monday, March 1st – Sneak up on the MSA! (Wear your sneakers!)
Tuesday, March 2nd – Dress for Success! (Dress up day!)
Wednesday, March 3rd – Hats Off to the MSA (Wear a hat!)
