Thank you for your interest in Turning Point Academy. Turning Point Academy was the first Public Charter School to open in Prince George’s County in August of 2006. We are a character-based, family-oriented school that is committed to an academically rigorous program. Our school implements the “Hyde Process” that was developed in Bath, Maine to prepare high school students for success in life. Since the inception of its program, Hyde has opened additional charter schools and private schools which range from K-12 and all boast of a 99% college acceptance rate. Turning Point Academy believes that school culture and high expectations play a critical role in student’s academic and social success. We also even more so believe that “parents are the primary teachers and that home is the primary classroom.” Because of this belief, we spend considerable time and attention on our school families by educating them on how to inspire their children and providing opportunities for them to model key positive behaviors for their children to emulate.
"Each person has a unique purpose in life. We will help people discover, develop and fulfill this purpose."
Here at Turning Point Academy our entire community looks to inspire one another to doing his or her best and developing our potential as individuals and as an organization. Because of this, our teachers also receive training in the “Hyde Process” and are expected to exhibit behaviors that reinforce our five words and principles. Academically, Turning Point Academy sets high expectations for what children should know and be able to do at each grade level, so children can pursue their best. We teach principles to help children reach high standards. We provide a data-driven environment that can detect changes in children’s performance and create a nimble environment that can respond to the data. We ensure that staff development helps teachers understand and interpret data, teach the curriculum effectively, and inspire children to meet the high expectations placed upon them. Children at Turning Point are encouraged to make a difference in the lives of others, while striving for academic excellence. We welcome you to our school.
