Technology is a critical link to the 21^st century and has tremendous potential to inspire students, improve academic performance, and close the achievement gap for children who historically have been left behind.  The Title I department is implementing the “Active Classroom.”  The goals of this initiative is to provide state-of-the-art technology programs and professional development for teachers to help students have a significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic assessments.  The project will enhance teaching and learning through the use of five key components: (1) mounted interactive whiteboard, (2) mounted LCD projector, (3) two interactive pens, (4) two wireless mini boards for each school and (5) a wireless interactive remote for each student.  This technology will enhance the curriculum framework with multi-media features and interactivity that will capture students’ attention.  This multi-sensory approach will provide instructional opportunities to meet the many learning modalities of students.  The interactive Whiteboard will assist teachers as they make instruction more engaging for students.  The Interactive-classroom will transform computers and projectors into highly interactive teaching collaboration, and presentation tools. In order for our teachers and students to meet the Maryland State Technology Standards, a commitment must be made to provide access to technology and frequent opportunities to participate in meaningful and challenging activities and tasks involving those technological tools.
