| As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. You
and your child’s school have something in common: You both want your
child to learn and do well. When parents and teachers communicate, each person can share important
information about your child’s talents and needs. Parent-Teacher
conferences are a great way to begin conversations about your child’s education. Here are some tips on how to
prepare for Parent-Teacher conferences.

- Before you go, review your child’s work and progress reports.
- Make a list of things you want to discuss at the conference.
- Ask your child if there is anything that he/she would like to talk
about with the teacher.
- During the conference focus on how the child is doing in school and
how to support the child to do better.
- Ask what you can do to at home to support your child.
- Develop a plan that you and the teacher work out together and
discuss the plan with your child.
- Stay in touch with the teacher regularly to discuss progress.
