    It is a pleasure to be able to welcome you to a new and exciting school year and to provide you with our theme for the year:

    Higher Order Learning Leads to Achievement!  

    The mission of Thomas Johnson is to provide our students with the skills to be transliterate thus preparing them to be productive members of the 21st century. It is my sincere belief that with your dedicated and wholehearted commitment our school will attain the goal of achieving a proficient and advanced achievement rate of no less than 75%.  

    Please be advised that the information outlined below is pertinent for a successful school year. It is important that all of work together and form a true community that embraces and focuses the attention of our scholars on achievement and success. I am excited about the opportunities and achievements that we will make together. I have been blessed to be entering my second year opening TJMS and know that you expect great things and we plan to deliver. This year we have a lot of new faces which I equate to new ideas and strategies. The school will hosting the annual back to school night September 8th, 2016 from 6 pm until 8 pm; please report to the cafeteria. 

    I want to take this opportunity to share with you some of the strategies that we will be utilizing this year to ensure that our scholars truly are receiving the opportunities for Higher Order Learning that will Lead to Achievement. Thomas Johnson will be utilizing the team approach that will be comprised of science, history, math and English teachers who will have the same scholars and will be charged with implementing the following strategies: cross curricular teaming, unit planning based off of a theme (provided by STEM), portfolio/AVID notebook based on thematic unit, PD on collaborative planning and professional learning communities, small group instruction, math intervention, reading intervention Socratic Seminar, Monthly learning sessions, produce technical products, established norms and protocols, and branding the school as an AVID and STEM school.
