TJMS Summer School Extended Year Program Information
TJMS will be sponsoring a full-day
Extended Year Program from July 6th - July 29th, 2016. The program will
include studies in Reading, Math, and Daily Enrichment Activities. The
Extended Year Program will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:45am -

Scholars: The Administration and Teachers have been working hard to
finalize activities for our 8th grade scholars. Information concerning
promotion ceremonies, activities, and other events can be found in the
links below. Please be advised that scholars not conducting themselves
to school and county expectations may be excluded from one or more of
the 8th grade activities.

STREAM Robotics Earns 2nd Place at iCommunity Event
Please congratulate the students and program advisers of the STREAM Robotics team for their 2nd place win during the iCommunity Day Event held at Oxon Hill HS on May 14th, 2016. The students worked very hard as a team and are now qualified to advance to the next round of competition with more information forthcoming in the near future. Congratulations again and we are proud of you!
Immunization Notice: Incoming 7th graders during 2016-17 School Year
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requires all students entering
7th grade to receive the following vaccinations listed in the attachment
below prior to the start of the school year. We are requesting that
these immunizations be completed by a doctor prior to the end of the
current 2015-16 school year so there are no delays in enrollment for the
following school year. Paperwork must be provided to the school nurse
showing proof of vaccinations or the student(s) may not be permitted to attend school.
Two free immunizations clinics are being sponsored by PGCPS on May 16th & May 19th:
Monday, May 16 • 4-7 p.m. • Oxon Hill High School • 6701 Leyte Drive, Oxon Hill
Thursday, May 19 • 4-7 p.m. • Northwestern High School • 7000 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville

TJMS Band Scholars Earn County & State Performance Awards
all of the students who participate in the TJMS Band as they have achieved tremendous accomplishments throughout the school year. We would like to also take this opportunity to congratulate both the students and also members of the community who have volunteered their time to assist our musically talented students.
TJMS Cheerleaders crowned Grand Champions at PGCPS Cheer Competition
Please congratulate all of the student athletes and their coaches for earning not only a 1st place trophy in the medium-sized school competition, but they also earned GRAND CHAMPION by scoring the highest rating overall among the winners from each of the small, medium, and large sized schools.
Congratulations on an excellent performance and WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!
Destination Imagination STEM Scholars are going to Knoxville!
TJMS recently attended a Destination Imagination Competition on April 9th and earned 3rd place in the competition division. This is the first time in SCHOOL HISTORY that our STEM students have earned this award and they are now qualified to attend the Destination Imagination Global Finals held in Knoxville, Tennessee!!!!
With the communities monetary support, we have achieved our goal and all of the students who are apart of the DI Team will be able to proudly represent TJMS in the Global Finals Competition!
Thank you for your support helping those affected by the recent Lanham apartment fires
We were able to present a check for over $600 to help purchase food and daily necessities, along with clothing donations to the families who were displaced by the recent fire. We wanted to publicly thank the community for their support and are also proud of our Jaguar Scholars and Staff for their contributions.
Black History Program & STEM Family Night was a SUCCESS!
We TJMS held their first Black History & STEM Family night on February 23rd. The night was filled with fun as it started with a gallery walk exhibit that was created by our scholars. Students also posed in costume representing a famous American that helped make our world better. Song, dance, and guest speakers were also integrated into the program, along with a surprise visit from Rushern Baker, PG County Executive. We thank all of those who came out and supported the event! Attention 8th Grade Parents & Scholars:
Career Academy Application Deadline Approaching
All current 8th grade students must fill out the new on-line Career
Academy application for the High School they are slated to attend by
March 2016. You may click here to access the on-line link. If your child will not be attending their neighborhood High
School, they MUST fill out the on-line Career Academy form anyway and
indicate the "no academy" selection. Please be advised that if "no
academy" is selected, a random academy will be selected for your child
if attendance does occur.
All students without Internet access
(computer & phone) will be allowed to fill out the on-line form
during school at designated times. If you do not have Internet access, a
permission form will be sent home with your child giving them
permission to complete the application at school. You may visit your
child's neighborhood High School website for details regarding Career
Academy choices. Once you click on the Career Academy link, be sure to
click on '4 year Career Academy' and have your child's PGCPS student
school username and passcode ready to enter.

TJMS STEM Team earns multiple awards at Final Frontiers Competition
congratulate members of the STEM Team who competed at Eleanor Roosevelt High School on November 21st. In total, the STEM Team earned Eight-1st Place Awards, Four-2nd Place Awards, and Two-3rd Place Awards.

Student Athletic Packet for All Athletes!
Parents: Any student wishing to participate in an athletic sport for TJMS this school year is required to submit records of receiving a doctor's physical prior to participation that is dated within the past 12 months. Questions about physicals may be directed to our schools athletic director, Mr. Alston, at email@example.com.
PARCC Testing Tips for Parents & Students
Please take a few minutes to review a list of suggested ideas (bilingual) that will help your child in the classroom on the upcoming PARCC test which is replacing the former MSA test. This test will be administered entirely on the computer. Please read the provided tips and feel free to contact your child's grade level guidance counselor if you have any further questions/concerns.
