Building Visitation Rules

In an effort to increase the safety of our schools and keep our students and staff safe, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has made some updates to  Administrative Procedure 0500 (School Visitors) as of August 8, 2017. School visits are arranged as follows:

  • "School visits are at the discretion of the principal and will not be permitted during testing”.
  • "Classroom visits and/or conferences by parents/guardians must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance”.
  •  “Classroom visits and conferences must be conducted in such a manner that the visits and/or conferences do not interfere with the classroom activities of any student in the class”.

All PGCPS utilize the Raptor Visitor Management System. Raptor enables schools to issue visitor badges with names, pictures and reasons for the visit, and time and date printed on them; to monitor volunteer and visitor hours; and instantly check all visitors against registered sexual offender databases in all 50 states.

Raptor only scans the visitor’s name, date of birth and photo for comparison purposes. No other personal identifying information is saved. If the system raises a question about a visitor’s background, the school administrator(s) will take the necessary steps to ensure the appropriateness of each individual’s visit.

Upon your initial visit the process will take approximately 30 seconds, however on return visits you will only be required to enter the first three letters of your last name and the system will recognize you.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
