Mission: The mission of the Suitland High School Library Media Center is to enrich and supplement the curriculum of the Prince George’s County Public School System. The library media program assists students and staff to identify, locate, evaluate, and use needed materials in a variety of formats. The program helps students with their curricular, informational, and recreational needs in a rapidly changing technological world.

General Information
Student Access
All students must have a pass to the Library Media Center during the regular school day, periods 1 through 4, unless accompanied by a teacher. In addition to the pass, students must also be dressed in full school uniform and have a Suitland High School ID card. If a student wishes to use the Media Center during a lunch period, a pass must be obtained from any teacher or administrator prior to coming to the Media Center. Upon arrival, students must check-in with the Media Specialist or Media Assistant. Passes from substitute teachers will not be accepted.
Students may use the Media Center for research, class work, homework, or leisure reading. Food and drink are not permitted. Students are expected to follow the PG County Code of Student Conduct while using the Media Center. Talking must be kept to a minimum. The Media Center staff reserves the right to refuse MC access to students who are disruptive.
Materials Circulation Policy
Students may check-out up to 3 books at a time for up to 3 weeks. They may be renewed once. Reference books may be checked-out for overnight use only. The Media Center catalog is on-line and can be accessed on any desktop computer in the school. Directions may be found attached to the computers in the Media Center.
Overdue fiction and nonfiction book charges are 5 cents ($.05) per school day overdue. Overdue reference books are twenty-five cents ($.25) per school day overdue. Lost books are charged the current replacement price.
Internet Use Policies
Students must be working on a school-related assignment or activity when using the computers. Chat rooms, social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, recreational email, games, etc. are NOT allowed at any time. Food and drinks are not allowed around the computers. Students using the small computer lab must be accompanied by a teacher. Students with passes have access to the computers in the Media Center office. Printing will be allowed upon the discretion of the Media Specialist. If a student does not know how to copy-and-paste a document, he/she should request assistance. The Media Center staff reserves the right to refuse computer use to students who do not follow the rules.
Other Services
Laminating Machine – Laminating is done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Items will be laminated when you bring them if possible. Items should not be left because the Media Center staff will not be responsible for them.
Copy Machine – The Media Center staff will make 5 copies for students free of charge for school related materials. Personal materials may not be copied.
