Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

It is my hope that you received my initial letter letting you know that I am the new principal of Suitland Elementary. Also, I shared that we have a new assistant principal, Ms. Malissa Parnell. Just like you, she and I are in school to increase our knowledge. We are working on our Doctoral degrees. Yes, we are life-long learners striving to share the importance of education with you, your family and the citizens of the Suitland community.

I hope you had a great summer swimming, riding roller coasters, traveling, and eating good food at family cookouts. Well, we want you to return your focus to study. I hope you took some time read and practice your math facts over the summer. We are ready to challenge you. Teachers are preparing exciting lessons to engage you in the learning process. Ms. Parnell and I will work hard to ensure Suitland Elementary is a safe, dynamic place to teach and learn. We will visit your classrooms daily to see all of the wonderful activities you are doing. There will be opportunities to share your knowledge with your peers either on stage or during the Morning Message. We are working diligently to provide updated computers in lab for special projects and activities. Yes, there is a lot to learn, but we promise to make it fun and engaging.

Parents, you are our partners in education. You are your child’s first teacher. We need your continued support. I mentioned in my first letter the purchasing agenda books. You should have seen them come home by now with assignments recorded in them. This will keep everyone informed of daily assignments. Teachers will develop newsletters to inform you of classroom events, and webpages to post homework assignments for you to review, and download before leaving work to keep our young people on task.

Our vision for Suitland Elementary students mirrors the leadership of Prince George’s County Public Schools, which is continued student achievement that prepares young minds for the workforce or college. We want to raise the expectations of every person who comes in contact with your child to create challenging learning opportunities where your child feels empowered to solve complex problems in their daily assignments that lead to transforming their world.  We are always available throughout the school year to address any questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact us at the school at 301-817-3770. We are available by email at pamela.preston@pgcps.org and malissa.parnell@pgcps.org. Ms. Parnell and I are looking forward to working with your child and you this academic year.

 Respectfully,

Pamela Preston

Principal
