Mission:
The Compliance Office represents PGCPS in special education due process hearings and mediations.  The Office also provides Principals and School Staffs with technical assistance concerning special education matters, including discipline and IEP process.  In addition, the Compliance Office investigates complaints to the Office for Civil Rights and the Maryland State Department of Education, and assists with student specific and systemic corrective actions.  Lastly, the Compliance Office prepares and reviews PGPCS procedures concerning special education to ensure compliance with all relevant State and Federal statutes and regulations.

In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act “IDEA” and the Code of Maryland Regulations “COMAR”, the Compliance Department provides general supervision over all educational programs within the continuum to ensure that each student with a disability receives a Free  Appropriate Public Education ”FAPE” and that each family has the benefits of a system of procedural safeguards. 

To fulfill this responsibility, the Compliance Office:

1. Conducts compliance Monitoring for Continuous Improvements and Results (MCIR) to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and successful outcomes for students with disabilities.

2.  Provide Training and Technical Assistance throughout the district to address current and projected special education needs.

3.  Conducts training for Administration, Special Education staff, and other school system personnel regarding the requirements of IDEA and the provision of FAPE for students with disabilities.
