The Parent Center, under the Prince George's County Public Schools Department of Special Education, coordinates the following programs and services:
The Partners For Success Parent Center:
The Partners for Success Parent Center is a resource center located in Adelphi, Maryland. The Parent Center provides information and training to parents on disabilities, transition, the IEP process, special education programs, current special education legislation and initiatives. The center has a lending library, and an informational resource referral bank. The Partners for Success Parent Center sponsors and participates in community resource fairs and events.
Parent Surrogate Office: The Parent Surrogate office provides monthly training to individuals who are acting as surrogates on behalf of Prince George's County Public School students. Surrogate Parents are trained in the Basics of Special Education. Training is offered on a regular basis throughout the year. A calendar is provided that lists the date and location of all parent center workshop that have been scheduled for the current school year.
Extended School Year Office:
Extended School Year( ESY), is an individualized extension of specific special education goals and related services beyond the regular school year. It is designed to meet specific goals and objectives as identified in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Participation in the Extended School Year is determined by the IEP team. The Extended School Year office is responsible for coordinating the County's ESY program.
