The Nonpublic Office supports the provision of specialized instruction for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Before a student can be placed outside of the general educational environment, the full range of supplementary aids and services that would facilitate the student’s placement in a general education classroom setting must be considered.  The Nonpublic Office coordinates programs and services to ensure that students with disabilities in nonpublic programs have the same opportunity as their non-disabled age peers to participate and progress in the general education curriculum, to the extent appropriate.  Nonpublic Specialists provide case management services to ensure services are delivered in compliance with local, state and federally mandated laws, regulations and procedures.

An additional responsibility of the Nonpublic Office is to identify students currently in Nonpublic Programs who are demonstrating readiness to transition to less restrictive programs and ensure that appropriate supports are in place for their smooth transition back to the general education environment.
