Prince George’s County Public Schools is responsible for locating, identifying, and evaluating all students with disabilities who are Parentally Placed in Private, Religious or Home School elementary and secondary schools that are geographically located within Prince George’s County. This includes children who live in Prince George’s County and do not attend public school, but attend a private or religious school in Prince George’s County, as well as children who do not live in Prince George’s County and whose parents have enrolled them in private or religious schools located in Prince George’s County. Parents of students who are seeking these child find services should contact The Child Find Office for Private, Religious and Home School Students.

 The Child Find Process

Parents seeking Child Find or Special Education Services for a child who attends a private or parochial school geographically located in Prince George’s County, should contact The Child Find Office for Private, Religious and Home School Students (Ages 5-21).  Parents/Legal Guardians can make an appointment to come into the office and register their child with Prince George’s County Public Schools.  This registration is not an enrollment registration but an administrative registration for tracking and informational purposes only.  During the registration the parent will receive an IEP Team Referral Packet.  The packet contains forms for the private school to complete.  Once the documents are completed, they should be returned to The Child Find Office as soon as possible.  Once the office receives the packet it is reviewed for accuracy, a master copy is made for the office file.  The original file is then forwarded to the IEP Team at the neighborhood public school where all subsequent discussions and decisions are made.

The information on this page applies to school aged students only.
