Purpose and Goals of the Evaluation Tools
The Prince George’s County Public School System has initiated a new principal and teacher evaluation system that works to bring the qualities and practices of highly effective leaders and teachers into every classroom every school year. The system gathers evidence of professional practice that is observed by the appropriate evaluator and gathered together to form a picture of what is happening in the school and in the classrooms that contributes to the learning of the students. The purpose of a performance-based appraisal system is to serve as a guide to continuous improvement of performance and accountability. The appraisal systems are intended to support professional development and growth for all employees ensuring that each school has effective administrators and teachers. It is reinforced by the Superintendent of schools’ desire for performance-based appraisal, as a tool for continuous improvement.
