BioBlitz 2016

BioBlitz 2016

In celebration of the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service, teachers and their students grades 4-8 and a few high school classes, are invited to join National Parks BioBlitz 2016, to be held in and around Washington, D.C.

BioBlitz is a collaboration between National Geographic Society and the National Park Service that brings students and teachers together with scientists and naturalists to explore, have fun, learn something new, and discover more about local biodiversity while in a national park. Students will participate in inventories by contributing species observations and identification through iNaturalist, a citizen science application. Your students will work alongside leading experts to contribute to the national parks’ future.

Student activities will be scheduled during the school day on Friday, May 20th 2016. Registered classes will participate in field activities and the concurrent Biodiversity Festival. Numerous educational activities and opportunities await students as they interact with park rangers, scientists and many other agencies and organizations as well as with National Geographic Explorers whose mission is to conserve and celebrate biodiversity of the parks. We look forward to promoting foundational thinking skills and creating lifelong memories with your students. Registration is officially open!
