Dr. Summey with "Rosa Parks"

I am honored that the Prince George’s County Public School Board of Education has appointed me as the new principal of Rosa L. Parks Elementary School. I welcome the opportunity to serve the Rosa L. Parks’ learning and teaching community and look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Rosa L. Parks Elementary School.

I come to Rosa L. Parks Elementary School with several years of experience as a K-12 educator.   Prior to my service as a Resident Principal, here at Rosa L. Parks last year, I served as an assistant principal, teacher coordinator, and classroom teacher for 20 years in Prince George’s County. I was born and raised here and I graduated from Friendly High School where I would later become a teacher.  I am a fan of ALL home town teams, no matter what their win/loss record.  I love reading, dancing, and traveling.

I know that Rosa L. Parks Elementary has a history of great administrators and leaders. I fully understand that I have some big shoes to fill. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue building on what everyone has worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to move Rosa L. Parks Elementary to the next level. Together we will continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all of our students.

As part of my regular routine once school begins, you will find me out and about during morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, and throughout the day. I look forward to the opportunity to meet and begin my relationship with the students, staff, and families of the Rosa L. Parks Elementary School community. Learning is a lifetime investment. Think about the deposits you have made in your child's education:

  • Have you assisted your child in completing their monthly Book-It Logs?
  • Is your child reading at least 20 minutes each night?
  • Is your child coming to school on time consistently?
  • Is your child completing their daily homework assignments?
  • Have you met with your child's teacher to discuss their academic progress?
  • When was the last time you hugged your child and told them you love them?

We encourage you to continue asking reflective questions in order to monitor your child's progress and work with our staff to improve student achievement.

Ager Road is a very busy street, parents are encouraged to remind students to walk on the main roads to school each day. We can ensure our children's safety if the students follow the directions of the crossing guards. For the safety of our students, they will not be allowed to walk through the community parks as a means of a short-cut because adult supervision is not available in those areas. The school will not assume any responsibility or assistance for students and/or parents violating the recommendations.

Parents are asked to drop the car riders off in the designated area marked in the parking lot for drop off and pick up. Due to limited parking spaces, we are asking the parents to not use the school parking lot between the 7:10 a.m. - 7: 30 a.m. This will allow the staff to secure a parking spot in the effort of getting to their designated duty space in order to receive the students. To maintain ultimate safety, parents are asked to not leave their vehicles running in the parking lot and to not leave younger children unattended in the automobile.

Students should arrive no earlier than 7:30 a.m. because adult supervision is not available until that time. Students arriving to school should report to the blacktop area located in the rear of the school and stand in their designated grade level line. Students selecting to have breakfast should line up near the door closest to the cafeteria area. Head Start, p through three will enter and exit through the yellow door (north side of the blacktop).

Student dismissal will begin at 1:55 p.m. unless an emergency requires altering the time. Parents please note, in the event of an emergency normal dismissal procedures may change and may require parents to provide proof of identity. This not meant to cause any complications but to ensure safety for all of the children. During dismissal, parents are asked to remain near the fence as the students are being escorted out. After the first week of school, parents will not be allowed to escort their children to and from the classroom. However, parents are welcome to visit and/or observed at any time. All visitors to the school must sign-in at the main office and wear the visitor's badge. Parents violating this request will be asked to report to the office or leave the building. We enforce all safety measures for our students at Rosa L. Parks!

Friendly Reminders

  • Students eating breakfast should report to school by 7:30 a.m. Students arriving before 7:45 a.m. will be allowed to eat breakfast.
  • Students reporting to school after 7:45 a.m. will be considered and marked tardy.
  • Students are encouraged to wear the school uniform daily.
  • Request and pick-up for early dismissal must occur before 1:30 p.m. Changes for students' dismissal must be submitted in writing to the classroom teacher. Telephone requests for dismissal changes will not be honored unless it is an emergency. Emergencies will be determined by an administrator.
  • All parent correspondences and student information will be sent home on Thursdays via the red "Home Communication Folder." Exceptions may be made in the event other important information may need to be given to parents.
  • Parents are encouraged to get involved in their child's education by volunteering at school. Persons interested in volunteering must be finger printed or complete a commercial background check. Interested persons are welcome to visit our PTA room (office located outside of the nurse's suite) for more information or to sign up to help.
  • Remember to hug your child each day and let them know you love them!
