Application Information for Repurposed Schools

Prince George's County Public Schools is accepting applications for use of schools consolidated during the Phase I Boundary Review.  Applications are due to the Real Property Management Office by close of business January 20, 2010.

Schools to be Repurposed

·  G. Gardner Shugart MS, Temple Hills
·  John Carroll ES, Landover
·  John E. Howard ES, Capitol Heights
·  Matthew Henson ES, Landover
·  Middleton Valley ES, Temple Hills
·  Morningside ES, Suitland
·  Owens Rd ES, Oxon Hill

Board of Education Priorities for Use of the Repurposed Facilities

1.  Expansion of Enrichment, Specialty and Choice Programs
            Examples include:
               •     Spanish Immersion, French Immersion, Montessori, Charter and Contract Schools

2.  Support of CIP Program & Administrative Office Space
               •     Utilize facility as contingency swing space for emergency or temporary relocations
               •     Utilize consolidated sites as administrative offices as a cost savings measure

3.  Lease to External and Community Based Agencies
               •     Establish lease with public agencies external to the Board of Education with compatible missions of education and public services. Examples include:
                        •     Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs
                        •     Special Education groups serving our students
                        •     Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning
                        •     Use by Community Organizations
                        •     Parent Academy space

4.  Maintain in a State of Readiness for Emergencies
                        •     In the event of fires or weather events

•         Complete the Repurposing School Use Application Form

•         Applications are reviewed quarterly  

•         Applications will be ranked on the following factors:

               •     Which Board of Education priority is fulfilled by the program
               •     Will the program benefit to the students, system and community
               •     Experience of the organization in providing services
               •     Availability of requested space
               •     Financial capacity to operate program
