
What is a Job-Alike Mentor?
A Job-Alike Mentor is a master teacher who exemplifies excellent teaching and enjoys working with new teachers to improve their practice and to support their success as a member of the school's learning community. All new PGCPS teachers (new to teaching and to Prince George's County Public Schools) are eligible to receive a Job-Alike Mentor.
Job-Alike Program Goals: The goals of the Job-Alike Mentoring Program are to:
Increase retention of promising first year teachers;
Provide support and assistance to first year teachers;
Increase the capacity of school-based teacher leaders;
Provide on-site, job-embedded professional learning opportunities for mentoring partners and
Provide school-based collaborative leadership for Book Study Groups and New Teacher Academies.
How do Job-Alike Mentors work with New Teachers? Mentoring includes, but is not limited to, working with new teachers using the following processes:
Online Video Series (Coming Soon)
Online Collaboration with other Mentors through Job-Alike Mentor e-org
Using the coaching model for informal observation and feedback
Book Study Groups
- One on one discussions
Conducting model demonstration lessons
Assisting with unit and lesson planning
Assisting with curriculum implementation
Assisting with classroom and behavior management
Providing new teachers with resources and assistance for success in the classroom
Participating in the Professional Education Induction Program (PEIP) and
Facilitating professional learning communities for new teachers in developing a "New Teacher Academy"
