Professional Educator Induction Program (PEIP)
PEIP facilitates the professional development of teachers during the three-year induction period. Through this required program, new teachers receive guidance and training designed to assist them in developing their skills and understanding in implementing programs and curricula required by the Prince George's County School System.
The goals of PEIP are to:
- To increase teacher retention within the school system;
- To prepare new teachers with the requisite skills and competencies needed to experience success in the classroom;
- To increase the new teachers' use of effective, research-based instructional practices focused on student learning; and
- To assist new educators in the development of a professional plan of action to guide them in the process of lifelong learning and reflective practice.
Support for New Teachers: 
- Providing a comprehensive pre-service orientation for new professionals;
- Facilitating the use of Curriculum Framework Progress Guides, plan units, and design lessons;
- Guiding new teachers to apply effective classroom organization and behavior management strategies in order to build positive relationships with students;
- Providing training and support to help new teachers integrate content-specific instructional best-practices into daily lesson planning;
- Applying the principles of diversity and multicultural education when working with students, parents, peers, and the school community;
- Building a network and support system;
- Providing print and non-print resources to assist teachers with their professional development;
- Facilitating on-line courses via Blackboard;
- Providing a school-based Job-alike mentor for teachers with less than two years of teaching experience.
