Professional Development System-wide Offerings - Summer 2011 Catalog

  New*** MSDE Approved Courses

The school system offers many exciting opportunities to staff members who want to hone their instructional skills.
For teachers seeking first-time certification, we offer all required reading and special education courses as well as
courses to improve classroom management, instructional content knowledge and other courses designed to engage
the learner for continued growth. One program goal is to increase teachers' knowledge about how students learn
and to improve the instructional practice in the classroom.  Courses are offered during three semesters each year
at convenient locations and times. In addition, for certified teachers, there are a growing number of courses for
certification renewal and professional growth all offered to enhance classroom practice translating to improve student achievement. Another goal of the Continuing Professional Development program is to ensure that all individuals in the
educational community have the requisite knowledge and skills needed to perform at an optimal level. High-quality,
sustained professional development experiences provide practice to support and enhance the daily work of teachers, administrators, other professionals, and support staff members.  A majority of the continuing professional development experiences are offered beyond the school day and are advertised in the Professional Development System-wide Offerings catalog, which is published for each semester and is available for viewing on the professional development website.
